Fact check: Trump wants Warren to prove her Native American heritage. Could she?

President Donald Trump escalated a familiar attack on Sen. Elizabeth Warren Thursday night, mocking the Massachusetts Democrat and leading potential 2020 rival for her claim of Native American heritage.

He revived his nickname for her — "the fake Pocahontas" — and told the crowd at his Montana campaign rally that should the two find themselves on a debate stage, he would challenge her to submit to genetic testing to prove that she has Native American ancestors.

"I will give you a million dollars to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you're an Indian," he said. "I have a feeling she will say no."

Warren immediately shot back: "While you obsess over my genes, your Admin is conducting DNA tests on little kids because you ripped them from their mamas," she wrote on Twitter, a reference to the migrant children who have been separated from their parents at the southern border because of a Trump administration policy....

lots of Americans, black, white and Hispanic, have Native Americans in their ancestry, so the DNA test is useless.

She got affirmative action as an Indian, but her family did not have this “heritage”, i.e. was not involved with the tribe.

And for getting government benefits, you need to have a CDIB card. Lots of people who are members of unincorporated tribes can't get the card, but in Warren's case she claims to be Cherokee, and her claims can be verified by checking the tribal roles.

Stupid bitch has already taken one of those mail in DNA tests!

If she was even .01% Native American she would've OK'd a test!

I can gaurantee Warren has ZERO Native American blood in her!

Not totally useless, My father tried to prove he was part Native American but he did this before DNA testing was even discovered. He wanted to gain representation in a tribe for fishing rights I believe — or maybe they were starting to look into gambling back then, but he could not prove it.

He had the family lore, and his mother told him stories but at this time in our history, being part Native American was not something you wanted to have on your record, so it was not put on any official paperwork. Now with the aid of Ancestry I have traced her lineage back to the Nanaimo tribe of Vancouver Island and Washington state. Ancestry says I am 8%, that would make my father about 16%. I do not know what you need to gain acceptance in the Native nation. But this is what Warren could do, If there was any significant percentage.

As you say, everyone may have background representation at the level of 1 or 2% — I doubt that would support a claim for minority status at a University.

Yes. Get a blood transfusion from a native American. It takes the body 90 days to shed blood cells that are not a genetic match to the host. A blood sample can be used to cheat DNA testing. Now hair or skin cells are another story.

Might dna be taken from somatic tissue? Might this be an un-fudgeable dna test?

I would not want to see Warren in “jeans” of any type.

She looks more like Dana Carvey as the “Church Lady” than she does as an Indian.

And finally you know she’s a fake because she’s not “BRAVE” enough to take up Trump’s DNA challenge.

She might as well shove some feathers up her butt and call herself Princess Turkey.

[Funnies and giggles:
I did know a real Indian chief whose name was Tur-Kay. He was the late chief of the Piscataway Indians of Maryland. We were friends in the Archaeological Society of Maryland and once a year at a special meeting, he would wear his incredibly beautiful chief’s headdress - hundreds of white and bright red feathers. HE was “cool”.

Give me a break.

Trump would never play this card without knowing the result.

How did they find out? Trump specifically requested at the rally that his offer should be kept secret.

these DNA places have had staff that have looked up people and falsified data to upset them.

It would have to be a police procedural.
