I did an Iowa LULAC rally for Al Haig in 1987. They were still laughing about Gerald Ford not taking the corn husks off his tamale before biting into it.

You are confounding two different things: theory vs reality.

Spanish speaking natives, or expert Spanish speakers know that. Most Americans of any other ethnicity don't.

The difference between the spoken word and the written word also plays a role.
