Answer is it didn't really start there, not first settlers and not the beginnings of the Revolutionary War. Those were both in the South. Had to have a different national mythos after the Civil War, and so history was revised.

I also think part of the motivation to bring Palin on board was to drive away the Hillary voters who were still upset with Obama over the Nomination. As it turned out, Hillary supporters still went overwhelmingly for Obama.
If you are a Republican, why would you give a crap about McCain? He backstabbed, undermined, and contradicted everything a standard Republican would stand for. He sought approval from those who hated republicanism. McCain is the guy who eagerly volunteers to do the bidding of the invading Martian force. He did many things. He didn’t stand up for me.
