Sen. Lindsey Graham said Wednesday that President Donald Trump called him after he delivered an emotional farewell to Sen. John McCain on the Senate floor, telling the South Carolina Republican he "did right by his friend."
"He called yesterday after my speech and he couldn't have been nicer. He said, 'That was very sad. I just want to let you know you did right by your friend.' I said, Thank you Mr. President.'" Graham told CNN's Dana Bash in an interview on "Inside Politics" Wednesday, adding that the call from the President was "right out of the blue."
Never one to mince words, Graham admitted when Trump "says something bad about John, it pisses me off."
Asked by Bash how he squares his close friendship with McCain to his new relationship with Trump, Graham said, "If you know anything about me, I want to be relevant. I want to make sure that this President, Donald Trump, who I didn't vote for, ran against, is successful."
He added, "To those who want me to say the only way you can honor John McCain is to fight Donald Trump and try to kick him out of office, I don't agree. I'm going to do what I think is best for the country using what John taught me about the country."(continued)

Yes. Trump needs all the help he can get in the Senate. Linda has been pretty decent, at least better than expected. Trump knows how to get the most out of him. The supportive phone call helps the cause.
I agree. I don’t trust Graham for a second. He’s too far left and too GOPe to be trustworthy.
As time goes on I’m having a harder time telling the difference between leftists and the establishment GOPe who are deeply involved with the deep state and all the corruption that goes with it.
I.e., in a two candidate race he pi$$ed away his vote as an R and, in essence, voted for Hillary. His lip service declaring he wants Trump to be successful is belied by his non-vote.

I believe Linda is warming to POTUS for the moment because the Senate’s business is basically done for the year and he is worried about GOP turnout. Most of all he wants to keep his committee assignments, IMO.
He has to run with Trump in 2020. He has no choice.
He saw what happened to Flake and Corker.

Trump is smart. Graham has been a puppet of McCain. McCain is dead. Someone new needs to pull his strings. Making an ally of Graham now is smart.
