Republican governor says Kavanaugh allegations 'sickening,' calls on Senate to postpone vote

One of the country's most popular Republican governors on Thursday called for an independent investigation into the allegations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and said the Senate should hold off on a vote.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker made the comments as Professor Christine Blasey Ford testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee that Kavanaugh sexually and physically assaulted here.

"The accusations brought against Judge Kavanaugh are sickening and deserve an independent investigation," Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker tweeted. "There should be no vote in the Senate."

Baker, who faces re-election this November, is one of only a few Republican governors, all political moderates, to express dissatisfaction with the committee's handling of the allegations made against Kavanaugh. In July, Baker was one of three Republican governors, along with Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, to not sign a letter to Senate leaders offering support for Kavanaugh's nomination.

In an interview with the Burlington Free Press, Vermont's Republican governor encouraged senators to conduct a full investigation and "take your time."(continued)

Yes sickening. A drunk teen boy lays on top of a girl, doesn’t take her clothes off, doesn’t rape her, doesn’t kiss her, she doesn’t even say he grabbed her boobs. They are then bounced off the bed by another teen boy. Oh the horror

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker likes to molest little boys at secret gatherings of pedophiles in Hyannis. It’s true and anonymous sources told me so under condition of anonymity!

It’s a sickening allegation and there should be an immediate investigation into this accused child rapist!

Baker is another spineless GOPe governor, just like mine in Maryland (Hogan), and Kasick, etc.

Poll out with Baker at 68%.

This is a mirror to the 1994 Weld race, dems aren’t even trying.

No kidding right? All the news that’s fit to editorialize such that it makes the left’s ever more insane positions seem normal.

“One of the country’s most popular Republican governors...” The media would never place “popular” and “republican” in the same sentence unless they meant the most popular with the liberal media. And the only way to be that is to be a democrat like mccain.

Ten years from now, some people will complain that “Baker would have defeated Elizabeth Warren had he run against her, but he ran for reelection instead be ause he secretly favored her.” In reality, Baker is an extremely popular governor, but he wouldn’t come close to beating Warren in a U.S. Senate race.

I agree that someone in the future will say that. LOL

And I don’t know, I think he could maybe get within 10. But he certainly wouldn’t win. And his retirement would hand the Governorship back to the rats (What’s the difference? While he may have no loyalty to the national GOP I still think he’s a better Governor than stinking Martha Coakley would have been). After Weld, Cellucci, and Romney all bailed on the job I’d like to see a Republican Governor there not just pick up stakes.

And like 1994, it will be support a mile wide and a millimeter deep (although at least in ‘94, 2 GOP incumbents held their seats, no thanks to Slick Willie Weld).
