Predictions of a 'Kavanaugh wave' in November. But for Democrats or GOP?
NBC News ^ | September 30, 2018 | Alex Seitz-Wald and Benjy Sarlin

The country is closely following the Brett Kavanaugh saga, but will it sway voters in November?

In an era when the everyday deluge of news coming out of Washington can often feel too overwhelming, the Senate hearing last week to examine allegations of sexual assault against President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee seems to have broken through to an unusual degree.

Nielsen, the ratings agency, estimated nearly 20 percent of American households with a TV watched the hearing, while Google data on search trends showed Kavanaugh was a rare political story to eclipse pop culture and other news.

Partisans on both sides say what's happening with Kavanaugh will matter at the ballot box and, with the announcement of the FBI investigation on Friday and a delay in the Senate confirmation vote, it will remain front and center as Election Day approaches.

Independent polls and election handicappers have found recently that Democrats are solidifying their status as favorites to retake the House. The Senate, where several Democratic incumbents face tough races in states Trump won by large margins, looks less likely for the Democrats to capture, but their fortunes have been improving with candidates in Texas and Tennessee mounting unexpectedly strong challenges to GOP incumbents....

Red state dem candidates are screwed if they vote down Kavanuagh. Either they vote for a conservative candidate Kavanaugh they would otherwise vote against if they were not up for election or they vote him down in which case Trump red state dems will be voted out and we retain a bigger majority to get an even more conservative candidate on the SC after the election. I do not believe all this nonsense that if Kavanaugh is voted down that the Repubs will be so mad or depressed they will not vote. I think the opposite will occur in Trump red states when Repub candidates assure them they will be voting for Trump’s next nominee to retain a conservative majority on the court and their opponent has proven he will not be.

The stakes are different.

1864 was local. The objective was “leave me alone.” North/South divisions were somewhat clear. Fiercest weapon was a cannon or the newly invented gatling gun.

This one has a much bigger reach. The enemy is thoroughly embedded. The ammo is nuclear.

The enemy is within.

The objective is to take down the U.S. and all of our freedoms.

Yes. The elections went on. Re-read what I wrote.

I have pondered this also, what would it take for “torches and pitchfork” time?

My view is some significant precipitating event, a Trump/Kavanaugh impeachment likely a strong possibility. Lesser so for a non confirmation, depending on the circumstances.

We’ll have to see what happens when an FBI protege of McCabe finds “powerful, convincing evidence” next week that Judge Kavanaugh is a serial rapist.

I cannot fathom anything other than a huge red wave.

I think the reality is from the districts that the communists will pick up a lot of seats in the house but will it be enough get a majority because don’t they have 23 races up in the house?
They could win 20 and still not be in the majority. Correct?

I’m not sure.
