“8.8 million votes” - but there were 30 inner-city districts without Republican candidates, if those are 100000 votes instead of 0 it looks a lot different.

“strongest midterm performance since Watergate.” - only because they started so badly. Dems had 267 seats in 1990. Only 235 this year. But apparently 235 is “better”.

Thus far, Democrats have earned more than 8.8 million more votes than Republicans, flipped 39 seats, and are poised to win a 40th as election officials continue counting ballots in California.

Recount until you find enough misplaced ballots in dumpsters to win, then stop counting.

"Democrats have earned more than 8.8 million more votes than Republicans, flipped 39 seats"

They misspelled "stole." In fact, I'd say almost every one of those races were won by fraud. In fact, every Demonrat-run state where a Republican "lost" was almost entirely due to fraud. Every race in California, Illinois and New Jersey alone is suspect. The races in Pennsylvania were also run under ILLEGALLY-DRAWN lines foisted by the Demonrat State Supreme Court to gerrymander a Demonrat majority from the legally drawn Republican majority.

Trump wasn’t on the ballot. Somebody has to run against him. Beto, the fake hispanic; Warren, the fake Indian; Booker, the fake Roman, it doesn’t matter how many more Californians you add to the blue, somebody in your clown car has to take down Trump and you don’t have anybody up to the job.

Yes Jemelle - of course you’re right. How could we be so stupid? Please spread this message far and wide, and plan for 2020 accordingly. Heck, probably no reason to campaign at all. Just anoint a candidate and they’ll stroll right into “the Oval”. Save all the funds for the 2022 mid-terms so you can solidify your lead. {/sarcasm}

(And in the mean-time, the Trump revolution will continue, and we’ll kick all of your butts right back to Berkley!)

The economy is only as good as the news that reports on it. Lying liars lie.

I’ve made this point before, contrasting his approval with that of past presidents operating under similar conditions. Historically, low unemployment, modest growth, and the lack of a major, highly visible foreign entanglement has been a recipe for high presidential approval ratings. Even in an age of high partisanship and polarization—where partisan identities drive assessment of objective economic conditions—you would expect the president to benefit from our growing economy.

And I guess Jemelle has been wrong before, too. If Trump's popularity is less than one might expect, it has to do with personality and style, and not so much with his stance on the issues.

It’s the Democrats best performance since Watergate, but doesn’t come close the the Republican performances.

“flipped 39 seats, and are poised to win a 40th as election officials CONTINUE COUNTING ballots in California.”

23 Days after ELECTION DAY and still counting!

WHAT is TRUMP doing about this?

This must end.

The number of GOP House members who resigned since the 2016 election, minus the number of Democrat House member resignations, accounts for more than half of the net Democrat pickup: https://www.cnn.com/2017/11/10/politics/house-retirement-tracker/index.html

The popular vote margin is also a record high for Democrats, representing a decisive repudiation of the president and his party.

Err... Obama's first midterm in 2010 was way worse the Democratic Party than this year's midterm for the GOP.

Of course, the writer knows that, hence the irrelevant popular vote spin. One would think they'd have learned in 2016 that the national popular vote and a few dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

“and are poised to win a 40th as election officials continue counting ballots in California. “

That right there is the problem. Just like Broward and Palm Beach.

We are not far away from a catastrophe.

They're still counting in California? After over three weeks.

It's also worth noting that there were twenty-five blue state Senate races this year, and only eight red state ones, meaning blue states had a lot more chances to rack up votes.

Also, California only had Democrats on their Senate ballot. John Cox received 40% of the vote in the gubernatorial race, we're talking a pretty big swing in this one state alone if you subtract a couple of million votes from the Democrats (Kevin de León) and give them to a token GOP candidate running against Feinstein.

I'm starting to see why the author only talks about the national popular vote, and not the raw number of seats in the House and Senate lost by the GOP in 2018 vs. Obama's blunder in 2010.
