Americans are as proud of the cities and towns we live in as we are of being American itself. We expect degrading attitudes toward our native lands to come from hostile countries, not from people within our own nation.
Yet that was exactly what happened last week when Bill Maher, host of the HBO show “Real Time,” went on a disparaging rant that picked at the scab that is the cultural and political divide of red state and blue state America.
Maher began by blaming Jeff Bezos for courting wealthy cities like New York for his next Amazon headquarters while ignoring states he said would benefit most from thousands of new jobs.
“That’s why red state voters are so pissed off,” he said. “They don’t hate us; they want to be us. They want to go the party. It’s like we’re the British royal family and they’re Meghan Markle’s dad.”
You might argue that is Maher being Maher and as an entertainer he’s just throwing red meat to satisfy his audience.

Did they forget upwards of 7+ million illegals and the never ending conga-line of foreign nationals who've poured into CA for decades? Or the of tens of thousands of indoctrinated leftist academia spits out every year?
In addition, every single measure and every single person we voted for in the past decade, lost or was voted down. And these liberal liars suggest there are as many conservatives as liberals in CA? Total bull sh*t.

I think there is too much made of the “hate” that the Leftists have for Trump, sort of a disembodied sentiment that by chance coalesced around Trump.
No, their hatred is not aimed at Trump per se, and not because they don’t like him, because they manifestly liked him before he ran, but they hate that he is in the way of them maintaining their power and wealth. He is only a target that gives them a focus to smear. It is like Orwell’s daily two minute hate sessions If they defeat Trump, they get to maintain their power. Any like-minded leader would get the same treatment.
