The post-presidential rehabilitation of Jimmy Carter’s image is reaching a new peak.
After a decades-long climb from the gutter of public opinion, the truth-telling one-term ex-president is suddenly a sought-after commodity in the 2020 Democratic presidential campaign — a symbol candidates can wrap themselves around as everything Donald Trump is not.
Since January, at least two Democratic presidential contenders have reached out to him, Sens. Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar, who met with him separately in his hometown of Plains, Georgia.
For Democrats who once shunned Carter, his reputation’s revival is not only the product of time and his own substantial post-presidential work. It's also a function of Trump — a study in contrast to the earnest peanut farmer from Georgia — and a field full of Democrats yearning to replicate his come-from-nowhere victory in the presidential election in 1976.
In January, after Booker and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) met with Carter in Georgia, Booker posted a video on Instagram of Carter telling him, “I hope you run for president,” to which Booker responded, “You encouraging me means more to me than you could imagine.”. . .

Carter was awful but he wasn’t deepstate anti-american as every president since Reagan has been overtly or covertly.

I go back far enough that I remember watching Eisenhower golf on TV when he was still president, and I remember watching the
Nixon-Kennedy debates. I’ve watched all the presidents since, and I think the only reason Obama was worse than Jimmy was two terms vs one. If Jimmy had gotten a second term they’d be tied for worst ever IMHO.
Seeking his advice shows how shallow the field is for 2020. That we survived Jimmy and Obama shows an underlying strength in this country that gives me great hope. Trump reinforces that hope, and it’s a great time to bring the socialism argument to be crushed for a couple generations to come.

I called Obama “Jimmy Carter’s best chance to not be the worst President of the modern era” very early on, maybe during the first election campaign in 2008.
The second worst president...second to Barry Soetoro.
