I don’t think many conservatives paid much attention to him at all, much less overestimate him.
The democrats floated him as a trial balloon to gauge how America would react to an out of the closet raging homo. As usual the MSM was there to promote him in the interests of the democrats. They picked him because he wore his homosexuality on his sleeve and otherwise could be painted as a 1950’s style typical American guy. Clean cut, educated, military background, etc. Oh yeah, he’s got a husband and wants kids (don’t know how that works).

However the Democrats, desperate to win back the upper Midwest, are looking desperately for a “great White hope”.. so for some of them they thought this clown might be it... not realizing while he may make your new your metrosexual swoon, he has no chance in the areas you are desperate to win.
