Weld is the quintessential never-Trump Republican; he believes, essentially, that the Republican Party has been hijacked by Trump and twisted beyond recognition, and that with the right candidate and some momentum, everything could go back to normal.
Hello? Most of us on FR went with Trump in 2016 for exactly that reason, and after seeing what he has accomplished, we're glad we did!

Bring me an actual, proven CONSERVATIVE as a GOP primary contender in 2020 — one who sticks up for America and isn’t afraid to both stand up to other countries’ unfair trade practices (like Trump is sometimes doing) and cut actual SPENDING along with taxes — and I’ll be willing to vote for him.
As for Bill Weld, he can go bunk up with George Will after he loses.
