In my several letters and phone conversations with Professor Copperud, I found him to be a gentleman of the old school. The planet is a little poorer without him. It certainly is. Intellectual honesty of that high order is extremely rare in today's America.
A crying shame Professor Copperud didn't live to have testified before the USSC if and when a 2nd amendment case is accepted. Even intellectually DIS-honest justices like Stevens and Ginsberg would have had to give some consideration to his expert opinion.
Or maybe not. The truth means zilch to liberal stooges.

It should be noted to all those who think that the national guard is the militia that the national guard is under the comand of the Federal President . My Father was national guard and was nationalized six months before we entered WWII . Just to be sure that you understand the Constitutional foundations of the militia. I direct you to something from the above article.
The Congress has the power to nationalize the militia. Which could be considered the Constitutional basis for the draft.
Article I, Section 8, clauses 15 and 16 of the U.S. Constitution refer to Congresss powers concerning the state militias. Clause 15 empowers Congress to call forth the state militias into national service for specific purposes. Clause 16 empowers Congress to organize, arm and discipline the state militias, and to govern the militias while they are in national service. The Second Amendment confines Congresss power by guaranteeing that the Congress cannot govern the militias right out of existence and thereby disarm the people.

Can the Simple Cite Be Trusted?: Lower Court Interpretations of United States v. Miller and the Second Amendment, 26 Cumberland Law Review 961-1004 (1996). A great work. Every RKBA activist needs to read it.

This is AWESOME. I have printed it for discussion in both my American Government and Sociology classes this year. Great discussion and essay opportunity!

I like this approach for preventing future holocausts and future terrorist attacks.

I agree, although I also think that the Militia Law, making all citizens between the ages of 17 and 45 members of the unorganized militia is a more solid basis for the draft as it becomes merely a callup of selected segments (selective service) of the unorganized militia.
