Bypass Constitution? (Sandra O' Connor Should Be Impeached!)
The Washington Times ^ | 10/30/2003 | Greg Pierce

Posted on 10/30/2003 12:26:20 PM PST by bigeasy_70118

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor predicts that the U.S. Supreme Court will increasingly base its decisions on international law rather than the U.S. Constitution, according to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

By doing so, the court will make a good impression among people from other countries, she said.

"The impressions we create in this world are important and they can leave their mark," Justice O'Connor said. On the whole, the U.S. judicial system leaves a favorable impression around the world, she said "but when it comes to the impression created by the treatment of foreign and international law and the United States court, the jury is still out."

The 73-year-old justice made her remarks at a dinner in Atlanta sponsored by the Southern Center for International Studies.

The first cited case was decided in 2002 when the Supreme Court found it unconstitutional to execute the mentally retarded, she said. In arriving at that decision, Justice O'Connor said, the high court noted that the world community overwhelmingly disapproved of the practice.

Also influential was a court brief filed by American diplomats who discussed the difficulties confronted in their foreign missions due to U.S. death-penalty practices, she said.

The second ruling cited by Justice O'Connor was the striking down of the Texas antisodomy law, relying partly on a series of decisions by European courts on the same issue.

"I suspect," Justice O'Connor said, "that over time we will rely increasingly — or take notice, at least — increasingly on international and foreign courts in examining domestic issues."

When I first saw this story I thought she had been mis-quoted or had lost her mind.

With traitors like O'Connor on SCOTUS, our country is headed for a one-world govt just like the Bible predicted centuries ago.

How did these people get submitted? Ginsberg is a radical and I mean radical leftest. Why do the Republicans just sit quiet and let idiots like Oconner and Ginsberg get nominated. Moreover how do we get these people off the bench. Something should be done about this.

Judge Robert H.Bork vindicated again --and again-- and again
Clearly Sandra Day has passed her prime and no longer
serves this honorable court nor her oath.Agreed They swear
to the US Constitution --not to the world court.

These comments by Justice O'Connor are, of course, horse sh*t. Most of the world's nations are dictatorships of one kind or another. The official "policies" of such nations will not "respect" the United States, because their dictators will be road kill if American political ideals take root in their countries.

Then there is a smaller group of nations that are wh*res. These are nations who would sell their sisters to make a buck -- France comes to mind. Their official "policies" also do not "respect" the United States.

However, the people of those nations do respect the United States. Many of the people of all the nations in world would move to the United States in a New York minute, if they had the opportunity to do so. It's enough if the people respect us, and the "leaders" of those nations merely fear us.

Furthermore, the people around the world who do respect us, do so because we have a better system of law than most nations in the world, including theirs. The idea that we become somehow "better" if we go along with other nation's laws is therefore a fraud. Justice Ginsburg regularly participates in this fraud in her opinions for the Court (usually in dissent). It is pathetic, but not entirely a surprise, to see Justice O'Connor buying into this fraud.

Can someone explain if it is LEGAL for the Supreme Court to interpret law by any means except in relation to the US Constitution?
I really don't care what the law in Ruwanda says about anything.
Now if it is not right, how does one impeach a Justice? Has it ever been done?

I'm not convinced Reagan wanted a one world U.N. government when he appointed O'Connor. In the case of Ginsberg, Bubba nominated her, so you can't blame Republicans for that nomination.
