ALERT October 31, 2003
NOW is the Time To Renew the Assault Weapons Ban and Close the Gun Show Loophole
Send a Message to the U.S. Senate
Protect our children, our families, and our communities, while respecting the rights of lawful gun owners. Renew the assault weapons ban and close the gun show loophole BEFORE S.659 moves forward.
The Senate is expected to vote on gun legislation the week of November 3rd. Urge your Senators to make sure that any firearms legislation that the Senate takes up includes renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban and closing the gun show loophole. This is the time to take care of these two important issues before the Senate adjourns for the year.
The Assault Weapons Ban: Ask your Senators to join President Bush and vote for S. 1034 to renew the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, which will soon expire if Congress does nothing. The Ban has significantly decreased crime using the prohibited military-style, semi-automatic guns with multiple assault weapons features such as high ammunition capacity and rapid-fire capability (e.g., the Uzi and AK-47). These guns are not well suited for hunting or self-defense, but they are the weapons of choice for criminals. Hundreds of firearms used for hunting and other recreational purposes are not affected by the ban.
Close the "gun show loophole": Urge Congress to support the bi-partisan McCain-Reed-DeWine legislation. In 32 states, criminals, minors and other illegal buyers are able to buy guns at gun shows with no questions asked. Closing the loophole would require sellers at gun shows to do "instant checks" to identify illegal buyers, a requirement already in effect for all other authorized gun dealers. Legal buyers are protected.
Send a Message to the Senate:
Protect our children, our families, and our communities, while respecting the rights of lawful gun owners. Renewing the Assault Weapons Ban and Closing the Gun Show Loophole make sense and will certainly help save lives. We urge you to include both of these important initiatives in S. 659, before this firearms legislation moves forward. Phone: Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 or your U.S. Senators' local offices. But in the meantime, please, *please* pay attention to the following:
>We urge you to include both of these important >initiatives in S. 659, before this firearms legislation >moves forward.
The gun-grabbers - and in particular, Senator John "Treason" McCain - are hoping to poison the "firearms industry protection" bill - S659 - with these two amendments, one renewing the "Assault Weapons" ban, and the other giving the BATF Federal control of gun shows.
The real agenda here is to pit gun owners against the firearms industry.
The almost certain outcome is that the "industry protection" portions of the bill will be overthrown by the leftist judiciary, while the bans and the strangling Federal controls will remain in effect.
The Congressional RINOs - and particularly those in the Senate, where the margins are close - will vote to attach Senator Treason's amendments, unless it is made abundantly clear to them that their pitiful little careers (and their equally pitiful little Senate majority) are at stake.
The worst news of all is that NRA may once again stab us gun owners in the back and **SUPPORT** this supposed "compromise". They are certain to be under intense pressure from the gun manufacturers to support anything that the manufacturers think will give them even a short-term respite from the ongoing assault by "progressive" lawyers. They are fooling themselves, of course, since the leftist courts will overrule the "single industry" provisions of S659 in a heartbeat - but businesses (gun manufacturers unfortunately not excepted) are notorious for abandoning long-term survival, much less principle, in favor of perceived short-term gains.
CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. Don't bother calling Bush; he's already signed on to the gun-grabbers' agenda. Call your RINO senators, and any Demonrats (if there are any other than Zell Miller) who might actually believe in the Second Amendment). Tell them that you're going to sit out the 2004 election if they allow McPain and his gaggle of goblins to attach ANYTHING to S269.
