The U.S. government will fork over a half-million bucks to Linda Tripp of Monica Lewinsky scandal fame, as part of a settlement of lawsuits that chaged U.S. officials violated her privacy. According to court documents, Tripp sued the Defense Department and the U.S. government for leaking information that she was interviewing for a job at a lower rank and salary than her old job and for disclosing details from her security clearance.
Tripp's secretly taped conversations with Lewinsky.
Tripp will be paid 595,000 -- also receiving a retroactive increase in her pay grade which will be used to re-calculate her retirement benefits.
"This is a long awaited first step toward holding the government accountable under the Privacy Act," Tripp said in a statement.

Good. Now howabout naming the person who ordered that the documents be released? Hmmm, could it be, Hillary?

I'm very happy that she got the settlement. The Clintons were bas*****.
And Monica should kiss the ground that Tripp walks on as I have little doubt that Monica would have had a Foster moment.

My only problem with this is who is really paying. The taxpayer of course. If this was a truly just case with a just remedy, the money would come from Hillary's book deal or Bill's speaking fees. They are ultimately the responsible parties, not Joe taxpayer.

The radio network news said Tripp was taping Lewinsky. No mention that Lewinsky was asking Tripp to lie or that Clinton would benefit from that lie. Or that citizen Jones would be harmed by that lie. Or that 280,000,000 citizens are harmed if lying in a court is now acceptable.

The settlement is way too small, not coming close to compensating Tripp for the ordeal which the government inflicted on her.
The Clinton's again escape responsibility for their sins because prosecutorial vigor is absent. Bacon should have been prosecuted and the prosecutor should have worked his way up the food chain.

Most excellent - they should hit up William Cohen who was in charge of Defense at the time and his boss, WJ Clinton, for the money.......

from http://www.lindatripp.com/civillawsuit.htm click on the NEW document.
Washington, D.C. , September 4, 2002 In a 19-page written ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan has rejected the Bush Administrations attempt to dismiss a complaint filed by Mrs. Linda Tripp alleging that the Defense Department committed multiple violations of the Privacy Act over a 2-month period of time in 1998. The court denied efforts by bureaucrats in the Bush Administration to limit Mrs. Tripps case to just one leak to Jane Mayer of the New Yorker that the government now admits was committed by Ken Bacon, former DOD spokesman, and Clifford Bernath, another DOD official, in violation of the Privacy Act. However, published news accounts show that numerous leaks of Mrs. Tripps personnel and security records occurred in early 1998.
Mr. Bacon and Mr. Bernath got some splain' to do or else they owe the taxpayers about $600,000.

... Ken Bacon, former DOD spokesman, and Clifford Bernath, another DOD official, in violation of the Privacy Act.Ken Bacon was a bow tie wearing, intellectual wannabe, employed by the Clintonistas at the DOD. Linda Tripp should sue this rat faced little dweeb in a private lawsuit ... he should pay a price.

Maybe "we the people" should sue these guys, since we are the ones paying the settlement.

I detest these type of lawsuits against the gubmint - but in this case, the settlement (for all the Clintons and RATS put Linda Tripp through) was appropriate.
