Salute to FReeper Veterans; Check in!: THREAD #2

(Originally posted 13 Nov 2000)

While splashing some coffee into my eyes in a feeble attempt to wake up (early plane to catch this AM), I still wanted to take a moment and express my...and I'm sure "our"...appreciation to all of you veterans. We salute you on this Veterans Day for your sense of duty, commitment, honor, and sacrifice. Whether you served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq, or any number of other "hot spots" around the globe, may we offer our thanks and deepest respect for what you've given and helped to protect.

May God in His Heaven bless all of you, and just know that many, many of us remember. You will never be forgotten.

Take a moment and "check in" here, all you vets. It's your day. Those of us who served during "peacetime" especially salute the combat veterans; those who survived the bullets and incoming and left so many close friends behind. A special prayer to all of you today.

Time to revive the annual FReeper Veterans Check In. God bless all of you, but today, a special thanks to all who have served this wonderful country while wearing a uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces, wartime or peacetime. This is for you.

VETERANS DAY

Veterans Day was once known as Armistic Day, proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919,
to remind the Americans of the tragedies of War.
In 1939, a law was passed to make it a federal holiday.
Later, the name was changed by Congress in 1954, to honor all American veterans of all wars.

Veterans Day does honor every American man and woman
that has served our country in any armed forces.

"Now living and working near the Tigris River in lovely Iraq..."

Now living on LI and working in lower manhattan near the east river river in lovely NYC.

Thanks to all of you who put yourself on the line everyday for your country. Your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

In time, perhaps, we will mark a memory of Sept. 11 in stone and metal, something we can show children as yet unborn to help them understand what happened on this minute and on this day.

But for those of us who lived through these events, the only marker we'll ever need is the tick of a clock at the 46th minute of the eighth hour of the 11th day. We'll remember where we were and how we felt. We'll remember the dead and what we owe them. We will remember what we lost and what we found. And in our time, we will honor the memory of the 11th day by doing our duty as citizens of this great country, freedom's home and freedom's defender. God bless. ....POTUS Bush 9/18/2001

Good to see you too, RoL!

It's nighttime over on this side of the world. Surrounded by a bunch of Americans in uniform over here. Enjoying life and I still don't like sushi.

I'll check in - even though I was not in very long. Served at K.I. Sawyer AFB in 1978-1979. Pneudralics Mechanic on B-52 (majestic - if not ugly) and the Venerable KC135. I have fond memories working on those planes. I have tried to forget the negative parts of living in the Cold White North. I am a life member of the Air Force Association and the proud husband of ODC-GIRL - who is now on Active Duty orders for Homeland Defense for the Michigan Air National Guard - 127th FW. Have a great and thoughtful day Ladies and Gentleman Veterans. I salute you for you past and current patriotism! God Bless America!
