I was using viper , according to websters as a collective term for any poisonous snake. I was not trying to be genus specific.

ah, ok.

the answer is still "no"

better indicators for North American venomous snakes (excluding the coral) are a fat body for the length, an evident "neck" and a wide, arrow-shaped head.
