30 hrs of debate does NOT equal "getting serious" about conservative judicial nominees. "Damage control," "hoping this puts the issue to rest till after 04" and "placating the base" on the other hand...

exactly. call me when frist gets the cojones to modify the senate rules, otherwise all they've done is stay up way past their bedtime.

The answer is: appoint them during recess, or appoint even more 'controversial' judges during recess in their place, which serves to make the 'real' ones less controversial. Enough is enough! The judges appointed during recess serve until 2004 and as history has spelled out, many have finally gotten formal appointments - Eisenhower and X42 did it, with those results. GROW A PAIR, FOLKS.

You're forgetting the "average" voter who barely knows who's running and takes his opinion from the TV when he happens to be watching news.
NOW he/she knows that the Democrats have obstructed the appointment of judges when the country is suffering because of the shortage of same.

The minority can survive any amount of debate, as long as they know it is going to end.
They would be crushed by true unlimited debate-they could not block these judges for a week.

It isn't getting serious 'cause it wasn't real. Everything was scheduled and planned & they were able to sleep. What options are there, though? The Liberal Dems know how to play fast & mean. Republicans are too honorable for that.

The "nuclear option" won't work. Rick S. pointed out that 12 pubbies will not vote for it. The MIA's include seniors, like McCain. All Rick would say about the identities was that "you'd be surprised" at who's on the list.
