Mountain out of a molehill. First, what's wrong with assigning a nonconformist act? Second, who was harmed or insulted? Third, they'll probably be LUGs at college anyway. Yawn.

No mountain out of a molehill by me - it's this girl's mom who is making one. I just want to make sure that school policies are upheld regardless of the sexual orientation of the offenders...

"First, what's wrong with assigning a nonconformist act?"I guess I need to understand how it would relate to an English class.
Outside of an assignment accompanying a discussion of the works of Thoreau, but back in the ancient days when I went to scholl, that class was called English lit, "English" was closer to grammar, etc.

First, what's wrong with assigning a nonconformist act? How does it help students attain a better use of the English language?

Believe it or not, I actually am against the suspension also.
They did their assignment in a more public way, but it shows they took the assignment seriously.
I would give them an A, not suspend them. A 12-second kiss during lunch, a period in which kids are supposed to have some time to relax a bit instead of have too strict of rules about order...really was not a big threat to school order. If they would have done it during passing period or during class, I could see it being conceived as disorderly and would have agreed with the suspension.
I still would have given them an A if the teacher though.

My p roblem with assigning a nonconformist act is that it has nothing to do with education.
