PA setting up road blocks to find tunnel road shooter
By LAMIA LAHOUD
PA police set up check-points in Bethlehem on Wednesday to look for the Palestinian who carried out Tuesday's shooting attack in the city in which two soldiers were killed, a source close to PA Chairman Yasser Arafat said. He added that this was a result of the decision by the PA's security council to implement law and order.
He did not know how and if the PA would punish the shooter if they apprehend him.
The source close to Arafat said the Palestinian leader "was determined to show to everybody that he is serious about implementing security measures and law and order. Arafat "wants to make sure everybody realizes that the police can only implement these measures when he orders them."
Palestinian officials confirmed yetserday that a meeting between PM Ariel Sharon and Palestinian PM Ahmed Qurei would take place soon, probably ahead of a new round of Egyptian hosted hudna talks in Cairo after Ramadan in about ten days.
Some sources said the meeting might come as early as Friday or beginning of next week. Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom announced Monday that such a meeting was planned for next week.
His announcement came a day after Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman met with Arafat and Qurei in Ramallah and Israeli security chiefs, Meir Dagan, the head of the Mossad and Avi Dichter head of the Shin Beit. According to one source Sulleiman also met with US ambassador Dan Kurzer. Suleiman is trying to broker a ceasefire agreement with Palestinian militant factions and help the PA achieve a ceasefire agreement with Israel.
" There are a lot of positive signals it seems the ceasefire is in everybodies interest and might succeed", the PA source said. He admitted that it was too early to tell if Hamas and Islamic Jihad were serious about keeping a truce this time around.
Qurei and an evoy of Suleiman will meet with Palestinian militant factions including Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials in Gaza on Wednesday to prepare for a new round of hudna talks in Cairo, Bassam Abu Sharif an advisor to Arafat said. Another Palestinian official said Qurei would like to reach a hudna agreement with Hamas before engaging in ceasefire talks with Israel , but stressed that the Palestinian PM does not want to reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel on the hudna .
Punish him with a hug from Yasser and a quick trip to Syria.
Or maybe they will put him in one of the PA's revolving door "prisons" so that the UN and the EU are happy (in addition to the US).
In other news, Bill Clinton says he did not have sex with "that woman" and Hillary says she doesn't know how the Rose law firm billing records appeared in the White House.
