The Ministry of Justice has started taking steps to pass a law which would define female circumcision as a crime.

During his meeting with the head of the Belgian parliament's foreign relations committee, Justice Minister Ali Muhammad Uthman Yasin said his ministry was working on a law which would define female circumcision as a crime. The minister noted that the [draft] law was now in its final stage.

The minister said the government was launching intensive awareness campaigns among women and men with regard to female circumcision, a phenomenon which the Ministry of Justice regards as a violation of human rights in Sudan.

Big deal. 'Honor killings' are illegal under islamic law as well. You can get as much as six months, if they prosecute.
No news here....move along...

While they are getting rid of female circumcism, it would be nice if the government of the Sudan would also get rid of slavery.

Oh, and it would also be nice if they got rid of their policy of genocide against their Christian population, approximately 2 million of whom have already been murdered in the south of the country!
