WASHINGTON (AP) -- Aiming to become the Christian Coalition of the left, liberal and moderate religious leaders are founding a political group to oppose President Bush's re-election and try to turn their congregations into election-year activists.
The Clergy Leadership Network will help churches, temples and mosques develop voter registration programs, run its own get-out-the-vote drives and, if it can generate enough money, air issue ads, the Rev. Albert Pennybacker, the group's president and chief executive and former president of the Interfaith Alliance, said Friday.

Infiltration > Subversion > Indoctrination > Conquest
Leftists have been taking over US institutions for 30 years. If not stopped, there will be nothing left to save.
Just because people are catching on to this and giving them some heat... does not change the fact that they are winning the war.

This Penneybacker is the kind of guy that the Christian Church has a difficult time dealing with since it has no excommunication process.
He does not speak for REAL members of the church ~ he speaks only for himself, and not well at that.
The Reverend Jim Jones (of Jonestown) did the DofC a favor in setting an example people like Pennebacker should be encouraged to follow.

Could we possibly see a steady stream of "moderate muslims" denouncing President Bush at the Dem national convention? Could Repubs be so lucky? Could Dems be so stupid?

This is another group that hillary and Soros will fund. Soros said he would give up his entire fortune to defeat President Bush. Some just do not realize what we are up against.

A left-wing religious group. That's as oxymoronic as "dehydrated water." I thought religion was "the opiate of the masses" in the communist lexicon.

Among other issues, the network contends the Bush administration has unacceptably interfered in the separation of church and state through programs such as its "faith-based initiatives." The program offers federal money to religious organizations for work with the homeless and drug addicts and alcoholics. The network's initial budget is $300,000 to $400,000 but could become much larger. Wealthy individuals already have expressed interest in donating, Pennybacker said, but he would not name them. It won't accept church funds, organizers said; by giving to the group, a church, mosque or temple could endanger its tax-exempt status. If they're concerned about faith based inititives helping people, maybe they could avoid wasting this budget on tv and print ads and give it to the poor.

great point!!!
These guys are the first to denounce mixing 'religion and politics' and in the next breah denounce the 'mean-spirited' for not living according to their moral code.
Hypocrites, arent they?
I'd be curious to see what folks join this.

Well, if liberalism, isn't a religion supported by blind faith, then it sure is a brainwashing cult.

Now, if only we can organize Brights for Bush...

"A left-wing religious group. That's as oxymoronic as "dehydrated water." I thought religion was "the opiate of the masses" in the communist lexicon." True. But, are you sure that it's not just code?
"Christian Coalition of the left, liberal and moderate religious leaders..."
"Christian" in the title is used to misslead. It's really the "The Liberal-Left Secular-Humanist Coalition". Perhaps, like we use R,I.N.O. for Republicans In Name Only or L.I.R.D. for Liberals InRepublican Disguise...
Thus: Liberals In Christian Disguise? or Secular Humanists Disguised As Christians?

Could we possibly see a steady stream of "moderate muslims" denouncing President Bush at the Dem national convention? Could Repubs be so lucky? Could Dems be so stupid?Come on. You're talking about the party that elects Bill Clinton, Mario Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, etc. The last time I would've ever voted Democrat would've been 1960 (although in retrospect, even that might not have been the greatest idea). I predict it'll be at least 5-10 more years before they wake up and start making a meaningful contribution to America once more.

A left-wing religious group. That's as oxymoronic as "dehydrated water." I thought religion was "the opiate of the masses" in the communist lexicon.First, consider this quote by C.S. Lewis: "Liberal Christianity can supply an ineffectual echo to the massive chorus of agreed and admitted unbelief." In other words, "'liberal' or 'de-mythologized' Christianity" is more akin to areligiousity.
Second, remember the Unabomber Manifesto. Leftists only oppose a powerful tool as long as they are outsiders. Once they become dominant, they use it in all its glory to further their agenda. For example, when leftists were a minority on college campuses, they were vigorous proponents of academic freedom; now that they constitute the academic majority, they have no problem with suppressing others' academic freedom in the name of "political correctness." Another example is the Bolsheviks and the issues of censorship and oppression of minorities.
And if they think it will be useful, the next example may very well be American leftists and religious faith.
