Shout a lie long enough.......

The same identical tactics used by Hitler and the National Socialists Worker's Party to gain political power in Germany in the late '20s and early '30s are being used now by the democrats in the United States of America.

The only thing missing is that the International Socialists [communists]and the National Socialists [Fascists]have not engaged each other in street battles. They have not engaged each other in street battles because in America there are only Internalional Socialists, otherwise known as democrats.
As such, they are working tirelessly and relentlessly to destroy the Nation by destroying the Nation's institutions.

Miami, where they, assisted by a bunch of "useful idiots"; who do not know their left hand from their right hand battled the police. Thankfully the police won this one.

What surprised me, though I don't know why it should, was the number of individuals on this forum that supported the the communist anarchists.

No, the Supreme Court disallowed the rewriting of Florida law by the Florida Supreme Court in the middle of an election.

The only reason Andrea Mitchell is still employed by NBC is that she is married to Greenspan. Otherwise this old hag would be out-to-pasture. It's not as if they keep her on for her brilliant reporting!

Denied Gore the Presidency, or confirmed Bush's win? Democrats still do not understand the electoral college system, where weights and balances determine the Presidency and not major metropolitan areas.

I know what you're saying, and I'm sure Mitchell's bias influenced her phrasing, but in a way, what she said is accurate.

Words have meanings. Mitchell was incorrect. SCOTUS prevented the Florida Supreme Court from changing the rules of the election after it was over. Bush won every count including the one done after the election by the media consortium. Mitchell is perpetuating the myth that SCOTUS prevented Gore from winning the election using the oft repeated Dem contention that Gore had more votes than Bush. It simply isn't true. I am surprised that even some Freepers buy into this nonsense.

The Supreme Court ENFORCED Bush's victory in the 2000 election is the correct way to state it. They caused the laws to be properly interpreted.

The entire Gore legal attempt was a sham.

She should either apologize or resign. She has no business reporting news if she either 1.) Does not understand it or 2.) Feels the need to put her spin on it.

Good alternative. I like it.

Gore didn't win. The Democrats were trying conjure a counting scheme to push him over. Maybe MS Mitchell can recall the effort to sh^t can the military vote.

Next year were bound to hear "Gore won. Bush lied. Bush knew. Worst economy in 80 years. The war is wrong. Bring the troops home. Over and over and over and over.

Please explain how any action of the Florida Supreme Court could have made Gore President, given that the Florida Legislature was prepared to appoint Bush

Oh, I didn't know that was a "given". I agree that if that's a given then the SCOFLA's actions would not have affected the ultimate outcome.

How could Gore have possibly become President?

Well, assuming the SCOFLA's decision had stood - and the certain local precincts had been given the go-ahead to submit late counting totals, using novel counting methods, etc - I imagine it would have gone something like,

1. Count the votes

2. See who's ahead

3. If Gore, then STOP; else Goto 1.

That was, after all, the algorithm.

And I'm no computer programmer but seems to me that this algorithm only exits with a Gore victory, or not at all.

Under Article II, the state legislatures solely make the rules for appointing electors.

Not state supreme courts. Right. Which therefore put SCOFLA in violation of Article II.

Please read my post again. It was not my contention that Gore got more votes than Bush. It WAS my contention that, had the SCOFLA decision been allowed to stand, Gore would have ended up the winner. (Because enough votes for him would have been "found" by eager vote counters.)

I believe that's true.

We all have hunches and beliefs. But in this case, the facts do not support your hunch.

But I will agree, if under the conditions desired by the Democrats, the counting had continued, Gore would have won.

The conditions desired:

1. Throw out the Military ballots as much as possible.
2. Count only in selected Democrat controlled counties.
3. Keep Republican observers out of the counting areas.
4. Establish different levels of acceptance to best suit the desired outcome.

Yes, certainly an outcome to be proud of for the Dems.

Do you mean that, when the Congress assembled in joint session on January 6, 2001 to count the electoral votes that the Republican majority would have counted the illegally and extraconstitutionally appointed Gore electorsf rom Florida

The Republicans lack the intestinal fortitude to stand up and fight for what is right in the face of overwhelming anti-Republican publicity. Had Gore counted the votes, and had Gore then declared himself the winner, a media tide would have followed. This tide would then have painted the Republicans as blocking the "will of the people."

With the "will of the people" behind them, the democrats would then launch a media campaign not to be believed.

How many middle of the road R's would have folded? Enough.

Was Trent Lott the guy that would then hold them together in the face of overwhelming onslaught that would have ensued?

The question is laughable, as we all know the answer. The Republicans would have folded like a cheap suit.

Yes, President Gore would have been the outcome.

The Republicans showed what they are really made of by their failure to uphold the impeachment and removal of Clinton. The decision in the election would be similar as to the impeachment: Not based on facts or law or on the Consitution, but on political expediancy.

Pretty sad, actually.
