The goal is to make the concept of "lying" meaningless.

While that may be one reason, I think the goal of all the accusations against President Bush of lying is to boost Clinton's legacy. Every time Clinton was caught in a scandal, the explanations went from denial to "everyone does it." In order to minimize Clinton's lies and perjury, Bush must be a liar, too.

That's the real reason why the "L-word" is being so cavalierly tossed about.
