OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) -- The owners of Harry Caray's restaurant paid $106,600 for the ball that was deflected by a fan during a playoff loss, a purchase aimed at closing an agonizing chapter in Cubs history.
The ball was sold at auction early Friday, with the winning bid by Grant DePorter, managing partner of Harry Caray's Restaurant group, named for the late Cubs broadcaster.

You mean Bartman's family did not get the ball. Darn, I thought he ended up with it.

On a related note, the Cask 'n' Flagon in Boston has bought Bill Buckner at auction and is planning on trowing him off the Hancock Tower on opening day 2004.

"When we heard this thing was going to be auctioned off, we felt like it was going to be a trophy that was going to rubbed in Cubs fans' noses," DePorter said. "We weren't about to let it get into the hands of a Marlins fan." The Marlins defeated the Yankees in the 2003 World Series.
Who are the cubs?

YOU FOOLS!!!
The ball incident was penance, thus lifting the Goat Curse. By destroying the very thing that was to give you absolution from the curse, you are getting an "extended warranty" on the Goat!!! Oh well....

Suggest they get a goat to eat it on homeplate on opening day.

Yeah, ranks up there with the purchase [to destroy] of Jeff Dahmer's cooking set.

"We weren't about to let it get into the hands of a Marlins fan." A Marlins fan? Doesn't he mean THE Marlins fan?

I just can't get past the guys name "Bartman", it's so cliche so I won't even post the picture of the REAL Bartman.

and the Florida Marlins rallied to beat Chicago 8-3. And that part of that article is why the Cubs lost, not because of some fan.
Its just so amazing how the Cub die hards seem to ignore the reason they lost was the fact the Cubs gave up a ton of runs and lost the game... instead its all because of a fan... not the bad playing on the field.

The Cubs are one of the most storied teams in major league baseball.
The marlins are just a no tradition johnny come lately team that buys World Series rings.
Being a champion and having the title champion are two different things.
It's kind of like nobility, you can buy a noble title but it doesn't make you noble. It just makes you some schlock with enough mney to buy a piece of paper. Your blood will still never be blue no matter how much you spend.

I hope that "Jim" at least takes Bartman out to dinner or something. Talk about benefitting from somebody else's mistake. . .

And that part of that article is why the Cubs lost, not because of some fan. Oh the Cubs lost it, but without that extra out, no one believes the results would have been the same.

Other than the phrase pitchers and catcher report on Tuesday, I really enjoy the baseball recording in my head when Harry says: ah one, ah two, ah three...take me out to the ballgame.

The owners of Harry Caray's restaurant paid $106,600
All I can say is, Harry Caray's profit margin must be excessive...

The marlins are just a no tradition johnny come lately team that buys World Series rings. Well, this years team certainly "bought" the ring for an unheard of price. If I recall correctly, they payed less money as the winners, than any of the losers.
