GUWAHATI: Ulfa chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa has appealed to China to offer temporary shelter to the fleeing cadres while its ideologue Bhimakanta Borgohain said they would now accord priority to Myanmar to set up fresh camps there.
Rajkhowa in a letter to the Chairman of People's Republic of China said, 'We request you to permit them safe passage to your territory with minimum temporary hospitality necessary for their survival.
Rajkhowa in a letter faxed to the chairman on December 25, which was e-mailed to a section of the local media here on Sunday, said that of late 'we have come under massive attack of Indo-Bhutan joint forces and our combatants have been forced to retreat up to Sino-Bhutan border due to all-out air and artillery campaigns.
He said at this moment 'they have no options but to enter the territory of China to save their lives as they are negotiating with sub-zero temperature and starvation without any cloth and food grain.
Meanwhile ULFA ideologue Bhimkanta Burhagohain, who was handed over to India by Bhutan , on Sunday said unlike before, Ulfa was now giving more priority to setting up camps in Myanmar over Bangladesh.
He said he had earlier pointed out to the Ulfa top brass Arabinda Rajkhowa and Paresh Barua to shift the Bhutan camps to a safer country, but they did not respond.
Burhagohain, however, also asked both New Delhi and Ulfa to stop actions against each other and sit across the table to find a solution to the vexed issue.

NEW DELHI : Buoyed by the Royal Bhutan Armys Operation All Clear against Indian insurgents, New Delhi will seek to build pressure on Dhaka for a similar action against the North-eastern insurgents camps on its soil during a high-level meeting here next week.
A list of 180 camps operating in Bangladesh and 85 prominent insurgents based there will be handed over to Bangladesh during the five-day meeting between director-generals of the BSF and the Bangladesh Rifles being held here from January 6, official sources said.
During the meeting, the Indian side will ask Bangladesh to shut down or destroy these camps and hand over the insurgents wanted for various crimes here.
Or, they'll pull a Musharraf and claim they're trying to stop them from entering China but due to "harsh terrain" and what-not, they can't.
