"What part of the words "stolen" and "high pursuit" don't you understand?" What part of the words "needless, dangerous high speed chase" don't you understand? Not long ago these chases were not allowed by police forces for petty crimes like car theft that involved youngsters. There was a damn good reason for it too.... the high speed chases frequently ended up with dead or injured innocent bystanders, or the deaths of a whole carload of kids. If you think this car chase was worth it, then you go take a flying #$%&^% for yourself.

The police could not have known who was in the car or why they ran. Are they supposed to just shrug their shoulders, say "oh well", and let all perps that run for it go? Is that what you're suggesting?

How are the police supposed to know the difference between, say, a car full of stupid kids out for a joyride and say, a possible armed felon that just robbed a store and murdered someone?
What if the stolen car is doing 100 miles an hour and weaving all over the road? Just let them continue on their merry way??
The cops were doing their jobs and the kids were in the wrong and unfortunately they paid for their mistake with their lives.
Things like this can happen when you commit crimes.

Not long ago these chases were always allowed.
Excuse me, but I never said it was worth it.
I guess if you had your way, nobody would be stopped for erratic driving, stealing a car and fleeing from the police.
Luckily for society, the "poor children" bleeding hearts don't control law enforcement YET.

Since when is car theft a petty crime. If the police had not tried to stop them when they did an INNICENT person might have been killed.

Yes, just ignore people who flee from the police. The world would be so much better off if we'd just ignore the criminals. Better yet, why not just take the cars away from the police altogether. Had these children done what they were supposed to do they'd all be alive. Blaming the police for the conduct of lawbreakers is about as dumb a statement anyone can make.

What part of the words "needless, dangerous high speed chase" don't you understand? What part of the words "needless car theft and dangerous high speed running from the police by a group of young criminals" don't you understand? Seven young people's criminal careers have now ended. Very unfortunate, but I'll let the parents do the crying.

petty crimes like car theft huh?
They stole an expensive, newer, high-powered Intrepid and were crammed inside with a 15 yr old at the wheel driving eratically at high speeds after midnight? I don't see a petty crime here. I see a terrible accident about to happen.
Not the cop's fault.

If you think this car chase was worth it, then you go take a flying #$%&^% for yourself. Why are you trying to blame the police for the obvious screw-up of the perps? The accident occurred because the perps ran and lost - not because they were being chased. Had they not run, this wouldn't have happened. Running from the cops is illegal. Occasionally, one gets away with it. Usually, they get caught. Once in a while, as in this case, the results are tragic, but don't ever pin that on the police. The perps made the conscious decision to endanger themselves and those around them. To say otherwise is just plain ridiculous.
When the police light you up, you stop - Period!! That's the law.

Actions have consequences.
If you can't do the time (or its equivelant), DON'T DO THE CRIME!!!!!
Do you get it now?

So every crook that is willing to run should be given a pass, right? 'Cause somebody might get hurt, eh?
Their fate was in their own hands. They chose poorly. I'm just glad they didn't take anybody with 'em this time. Evolution in action...

You are entirely WRONG. To forbid pursuit is to encourage criminal activities. They died for stupidity sake - and not the police officers correct decision to pursue.
To: TheCrusader
If you think this car chase was worth it, then you go take a flying #$%&^% for yourself. If the police had not chased them, they would have likely killed themselves anyway or someone else. That is reality. You are being one dimensional when you ignore that reality.
The ones that are dead are the ones that committed the act. Not an innocent bystander. It is sad, tragic. But as a result of this accident many other children will be saved as their parents take note and closer watch over their children.
By your reasoning that the cops are to blame, you might just as well be saying the person whose car was stolen was to blame for not making sure it could not be stolen.
