There has been a lot of signal interference on KSFO lately especially in the evening. Tonight a caller on Brian Sussman's show asked about it and was told by Brian that a Mexican Station from Mexico had recently moved to the same exact part of the radio dial as KSFO and was broadcasting an extremely strong signal. He said they had contacted the Federal authorities and they were looking into it.
Excuse me for my lack of expertise in these matters by I thought it might interest some.

Brian also stated he thought KSFO might be taking some flack for mobilizing the campaign against Gov Davis.

XEROK, Jaurez, Mexico! I just had a 70's flashback. For a while, I think XEROK 80 was the most powerful AM station in North America. The transmitter has been dismantled.

Supposedly Mexico is filled with nothing but Republicans --- at least future Republicans --- why would they do this?

Recently I was getting an Asian language station overriding KSFO on my stereo system (but didn't affect my clock radio in a different room).
I get occassional squelching noise on 560AM throughout the years because of the powerlines in my neighborhood. Wish they would switch with KGO.

ha...
the mexican station are perched on a hill overlooking Tijuana....
they are probably jamming KSFO at night, since signals carry farther....you have to go to international arenas to stop it...
FCC complains to ITU (?) who contacts the Mexican people

If I have my big halogen lamp on at home, my KSFO signal is even more pitiful than usual. We've been getting a whistle on the signal here at the airport lately. Thank goodness for web radio...
I hope they bust them. I hate radio signal pirates.

I've noticed this on KSFO, but its not really that strong. It just sounds like light background music.

Radio signals are strange beasts. I can get Chicago AM stations here in CT right after sunset. They come in clear as a bell - even better than the NY stations.

ksfo is having michael savage issues...they keep running promos with savage-isms in them.
they've been asking "what has your radio station done for you lately" while claiming credit for starting the recall, which about 3 other stations also claim...
I haven't heard them a few days, but ksfo was running ads from utah to get companies to leave CA and set up shop there. not necessarily a bad idea, but it doesn't help CA much.

I have a
Select-A-Tenna:
It works very well in pulling in weak stations, and its directionality makes it very useful when you're trying to exclude interfering stations. Being close to the border, I get a lot of interference from Mexican radio stations, and this device makes it possible to listen to certain Los Angeles AM stations.

I'm pretty sure you're correct, because of the ZZ Top song "Heard It On The X" which is about this high powered Mexican radio station.

ZZ Top
Heard It On The X
Do you remember
back in nineteen sixty-six?
Country Jesus, hillbilly blues,
that's where I learned my licks.
Oh, from coast to coast and line to line
in every county there,
I'm talkin' 'bout that outlaw X
is cuttin' through the air.
Anywhere, y'all,
everywhere, y'all,
I heard it, I heard it,
I heard it on the X.
We can all thank Doctor B
who stepped across the line.
With lots of watts he took control,
the first one of its kind.
So listen to your radio
most each and every night
'cause if you don't I'm sure you won't
get to feeling right.
Anywhere, y'all,
everywhere, y'all,
I heard it, I heard it,
I heard it on the X.

Wall Of Voodoo - Mexican Radio Lyrics
i feel a hot wind on my shoulder
and the touch of a world that is older
i turn the switch and check the number
i leave it on when in bed i slumber
i hear the rhythms of the music
i buy the product and never use it
i hear the talking of the dj
can't understand, just what does he say?
i'm on a mexican radio
i dial it in and tune the station
they talk about the u.s. inflation
i understand just a little
no comprende - it's a riddle
i'm on a mexican radio
i wish i was in tiajuana
eating barbequed iguana
i take requests on the telephone
i'm on a wavelength far from home
i feel a hot wind on my shoulder
i dial it in from the south of the border
i hear the talking of the dj
can't understand, just what does he say?
i'm on a mexican radio
what does he say?

I got rid of my halogen lamp for that very reason. Sussman has been talking about this issue for a couple of weeks now. He said it takes pressure from the feds on the Mexican gov, as it involves enforcement of an international treaty. I'd write to my congress critter, but I don't think that the Hon. Ellen Tauscher would really give a rat's a** as to whether or not I get a good signal from KSFO. Maybe I'll write anyway, just on general principles.
I must say that her staff did a commendable job helping get my father's WWII service records, what could be found of them (smoke and water damaged from a fire at the records center).

From sundown to sunrise, KSFO is required to reduce power from 50K watts, down to 5K. When we're on Daylight saving time, nobody notices. I get the same "interference" as I have to wait to hear Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan till the power comes up with the sun at 7:AM, even though their show starts at 5:AM.
Brian shoulda thought of this before leaving his weather job at Channel 5.

Border Radio Dr. B is Dr Brinkley. He set up a massively powered station in Mexico in the 30's that broadcast all over the US.
