MSNBC is hosting a special section detailing the state of the trans-atlantic relationship with Europe. You might want to keep in mind that MSNBC's politics are decidely left (as their association with Slate and Newsweek clearly show) so a few grains of salt will be needed to work through to any useful information.

Do the voters really care about Europe? I wonder if there is any traction here?

No, we don't give a rat's patoot about Europe. The entire world wants to pretend they are as important as the citizens of the USA, but it's simply not the truth.
Do we or anyone else really give a damn who the next leader of Finland is? France? Germany? Pistlepate?
These countries exist at our pleasure. It is a sad reality to the snotty lessers, but they must face the facts. The United States of America is the glue that holds this world together.
Michael Moore might be shocked to learn that he might actually be killed in a less accepting society. He is too fat too move efficently. His girth would be too much for the general good.
