"Do you think that a body that debates feng shui can handle an issue like workers' compensation?" asked McCarthy. Uh, no.
"I think there's some sense that this is some kind of voodoo medicine," Yee said.
You can bet your scrawny behind on that Mr. Yee.

Solly Grasshopper,

An interesting note; Feng Shui originally was meant to keep bodies in their graves. It later developed to involve homes and entire villages. Feng shui "masters" popped up all over the place, each with their own methods, and not just battles but
wars developed over this nonsense.The
chi or "life force" you hear about is, as I understand it, just the air. You don't breathe, you don't live. The ancients obviously didn't know about the purpose of lungs and the heart, etc, but they knew about air, so everything was designed to make sure you got enough air, but not
too much.
It hit the states big time, and all the new agers like the idea of , for instance, keeping your toilet seat down to prevent the bad chi from coming in, or not sleeping across from a mirror because the good chi may get confused as to which one is really you. It's a lot of bunk sold to the gullible and it doesn't surprise me they are implementing it out on the left coast.

I always roll my eyes at the beginning of Trading Spaces or Changing Rooms when someone says, "I wanna design that fits into feng shui". Makes me turn the channel.
One woman got real upset because they put a piece of art work across from a table (or something stupid like that). Geesh! One is born every moment.

Mr. Yee said: "We need to allow the expression of one's culture. That's why people come to California So that is it. And all along I thought it was the weather, jobs and low housing costs (then) that people came here for.

"Traditionally, feng shui is believed to have ramifications beyond domestic tranquillity. "If there is harmony in the house, there is order in the nation," says a Chinese proverb. "If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world."
From my reading of Chinese history (very long, convoluted and fer Pete's sake...the NAMES), China is anything but orderly and peaceful.

Once in our local 'organic' food market, I watched a woman pick up items & swing something over them. It looked like it was something you would see hanging on a keychain. The little gizmo would swing back & forth & she would look at the 2 people with her & say "See ?'. Then she would pick up another can or package & do it again. I tried to evesdrop & hear their conversation but I couldn't. I wish now I had gone up & asked what they were doing. It was probably something nutty like feng shui.

That's just we need, more regulations...-- and to add insult to injury --- regulations based on Feng Shui.

"I'm re-doing my kitchen, and the Cal Bldg Code requires that the overhead lighting be flourescent."

I didn't know about this -- it's outrageous. How is it the government's business what lighting you are using in your own home, as long as it's not dangerous.
But what can you expect of people who want to regulate how much water you use to flush the toilet or to take a shower.
To: antaresequity
Pretty soon you won't be able to buy anything but fluorecent light fixtures in CA -- better stock up.
You can only buy low flow toilets, I think it's illegal to sell the "normal" kind, which was designed to actually do the job. You can also ONLY buy watersaving showerheads.
To: fso301
The problem is not feng shui -- people are free to use it, if they wish, but the government most definitely shouldn't be in the business of dictating it.

China is anything but orderly and peaceful. And never has been. I wonder if the Great Wall is feng shui compliant?

Feng Shui was for some odd reason THE RAGE among Jewish women when I lived in South Florida a few years back. I had no idea what the hell it was until then.

"We need to allow the expression of one's culture. That's why people come to California."Wrong. That's why people are leaving California in large numbers.
The only problem is they are coming to my state with their idiotic notions intact.
