ANOTHER KERRY TALE
NRO ^ | 2 Feb 04 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 02/02/2004 11:14:00 AM PST by .cnI redruM

This letter from a reader sounds awfully consistent with the "beignets" story I posted last week:

Dear Jonah Goldberg, let me share what a friend of mine, a college professor originally from Massachusetts and with liberal point of views, told 1 year ago about his so far only encounter with John Kerry.

My friend was standing in line at Barnes & Noble, when John Kerry approached the sales clerk, demanding to have his purchase processed immediately. The clerk was not inclined towards granting Kerry that favor, whereupon Kerry asked him: "Don't you know who I am?" The clerk had an answer ready: "Yes, you are the guy who has to position himself at the back of the line." :)

So many people hear and pass on these "do you know who I am" stories. I expect some are true and some are not. I'd expect a politician would just send a minion to a bookstore.

Give that clerk a fat raise! Good answer!

I wonder if he was buying back copies of his book, heh heh...

A SMART politician would send a lackey.

Thanks. Sounds like him. I tend to believe it. Politicians do go out into the real world.

My daughter worked for Supercrown early in college.

She says that when Larry King gave a talk there, he stole a bunch of reading material that his staffers claimed was "comp".

That sort of a reply could have only come from someone who has served in the military.
