THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN THE SOUND BARRIER BREAKS ON YOUR HEAD!!

On June 4th, 1989, at an Air Show in London, Ontario, Canada, an RF-4-C Phantom of the Mississippi Air National Guard, accidentally cracked Mach-1, while doing the Show opening.

As luck would have it, we were standing underneath it at the time. The photo was snapped by my brother as he was being blown off his feet:

Cool, huh?...

The plane was an RF-4C #66-413 Phantom.
Pilot: #186 TRG-Capt. Rich McCann.
Rizzo: #153 TRS-Capt. Bruce Larson.
Mississippi Air National Guard.

When I figure out how to put-up the video of this on a web site, I'll link it here (if someone will tell me how). The sight and sound, and the resultant damage are awesome............FRegards

Air National Guard photo? Save this pic. You may need it 20 years from now to prove this guy wasn't AWOL.

"...Boy that just warms the cockles of your heart, don't it?..."

It surely did!

I shoulda added that a bunch of us old pilots were semi-affiliated with the Show, and had a hanger on the flight-line well-stocked with refreshments for the visiting Airmen and Crew.

We were on the tower frequency, and knew when the Phantom was 'Cleared for 600'! well, canuckville is metric, and these guys were former US Navy. There's a tad difference between 600 kph and 600 Knots, and it was a sultry day.

I'd never heard 800 car-alarms go off at once.............FRegards

OK, the F-4 photo is plausible, but not the B-52. Somebody's pulling our leg on this one IMO.

Good to see ya again, gonzo!!!

That has got be be even better than when the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds pull the "Tactical Surprise" trick on the audience.

Yeah, upon closer inspection the B-52 photo DOES appear to be doctored. Whoops. <|:)~
