The fact that the country is even having this "debate" is a clear and ominous indication that we're in that space generally occupied by Wily Coyotee before he looks down, and discovers that he's gone waaaaay past the edge of the cliff.

Someone needs to set the nation's Wayback Machine to "normal", but I'm not expecting that to happen. I honestly believe that the madness has passed the point of no return, and is going to end up running its course.

After the dust settles, whoever is left with their wits about them can try to pick up the pieces. I have no idea if that will happen in any of our lifetimes, though.
