Candidate: 'Start your engines'

In this season of the Democratic primaries, everything is perceived in dichotomies of red and blue. We're reminded that the electorate is evenly divided, that ideology is rampant and that the voter sees the issues in negatives and positives.

Polls suggest that George W. Bush will get a large majority of the white male vote and John Kerry will get a majority of the female vote. Conservatives are supposed to appeal to the NASCAR dad, the hard-drinking, hard-living workingman in the stands at the Daytona 500. Democrats will get the vote of the softer, socially conscious liberal ladies. "Democrats trolling for votes among NASCAR dads," says one Republican analyst, "is like a Republican trolling for votes at a NOW convention."

The most cynical observation based on exit polls is not constructive but destructive, not substantive but anger-driven: Democrats will vote for anybody they think can beat George Bush.

Baloney! If they were truly socially conscious, there'd be no way they would vote for a liberal.

Actually, I think LBJ would have won without the female vote. My female relatives (by blood and marriage) are evenly split, but there is only one true liberal in the group, married to my Republican brother, the former Enron VP - go figure.

I can't think of a single female in my family or immediate extended family that would vote democrat. Our asses don't need kicking, a little lift maybe, but no kicking please...:)

Sorry, but it is a fact.

No Democrat in the last 50 years would have been elected if only men voted.

Only women will vote for Kerry, or Hillary, or any other 'Rat in numbers that can impact Republican presidential aspirations.

As once said,

There is only one b#tch. One b#tch, with many faces.

Women are far more influenced by the media than men.

Women seek consensus and approval, and are confused and intimidated by the controversy of non-issues like WMD and AWOL.

Women essentially are not able to vote for the Presidency without major external influences impacting decision.

The 'Rats have known this for years.

Where are you GOP? Are you sleeping?

Democrats only win the young, college educated, single women's vote (and all the black women).

They lose among white, married, and married with kids women. College educated or not.

Why are they in this mantra of "evenly divided"? could it be they want to say evenly divided to justify fraud in the level of 25% or higher?

With only 17% of the population openly admitting to being a liberal (based on radio reports) we are no longer evenly divided. We are what we have always been more conservative. We are going from slightly to solidly.

These reports of evenly divided are just 1- generat news interest to get ratings for an otherwise boring race and 2- provide cover for fraud.

Remember network TV is written for a female majority audience. Let us not forget the recent stories that men are NOT watching TV in droves.

All? I beg to differ and I think Condi would too. You are generalizing. I know tons of conservative, Republican black women. I'm one of them.

You seem to have some issues with women. I won't be playing psychoanalyst, but I will be playing mod. Keep these comments off the forum. You won't get another warning.

My only point, and relevant comment about women voters, is that they vote overwhelmingly Democratic, and that no Democratic President would have been elected without them.

Yes, including Bob Dole.

The GOP is missing the significance of this at every opportunity.

Now, all else was easily identified as sarcasm.

And I like women so much, I keep company with several.

I guess all those union guys I see with "Kerry for President" signs are a figment of my immagination????

All the women in our family vote straight REPUBLICAN.

Agreed.

Every seemingly insignificant disparaging comment made on daytime television, Hollywood movies, etc. that cheap shot the Republicans, President Bush, President Reagan, etc. or by contrast advance Clinton, Carter, the Democrats et. al., is capable of influencing this critical voting block.

It isn't good enough to win the Sunday news programs with ideas and facts.

The GOP have to break through and find an emotional connection.
