RKBA ALERT! S. 659 may be voted on in the next two days!
Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms | 1/23/04 | Alan Gottlieb

Posted on 02/24/2004 12:41:17 AM PST by Richard-SIA

I think ALL the RKBA groups are sending out similar alerts.

I have gotten them from the NRA and CCRKBA today!

Searched but did not see this posted, much to my surprise.

This is the one from CCRKBA, not better than NRA's, just handiest for copy and paste here.

ACTION ALERT! CONTACT YOUR SENATOR, URGE SUPPORT FOR S.659 The U.S. Senate appears ready to debate S. 659, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act on Wednesday, Feb. 25, and gun owners need to call Capitol Hill and urge their Senators to support these measures and block a filibuster, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

"The other side has pulled out all the stops to defeat this important measure," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. "Gun rights activists who want to help preserve the firearms industry, and bring an end to years of costly, frivolous lawsuits against perfectly legal businesses, need to call their Senators now.

"Anti-gunners will be flooding the Capitol switchboard with telephone calls on Tuesday," Gottlieb said. "Firearms owners need to counter that with the same energy and devotion to our civil rights as the other side is showing in their effort to destroy the Second Amendment. Senators need to hear from their constituents and the message should be loud and clear: Pass S. 659, with no anti-gun amendments."

S.659 would stop frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry and law-abiding gun dealers. These lawsuits have been consistently thrown out of court, Gottlieb noted, because they are without merit. In a couple of cases, cities have dropped their legal actions, either because they found out during discovery that they had no case, or because they could not produce documentation to support their specious claims, he noted.

On Tuesday, he said, gun owners calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 should ask to be connected with their U.S. Senators. Be prepared to call twice to reach both Senators from your state.

Call between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm EST. That means calls from the Central Time Zone should be made between 8 a.m. and 12 Noon. Calls from the Mountain Time Zone should be made between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. Calls from the West Coast need to be made between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

"The anti-gun crowd is calling Tuesday its 'national call-in day' to try and stop this legislation, which President Bush has already said he would sign," Gottlieb stressed. "Gun owners need to turn Tuesday into a 'national gun rights victory day'."

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation's premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

Oh, good. Somebody else posted this alert.

The phones in DC are going to be jammed tomorrow. Let's make sure that most of the calls are from us right wing extremist gun nuts. This bill needs to pass WITHOUT AMENDMENTS. NRA is assuring everyone that any of Schumerstein's proposed gungrab amendments "will be removed in committee", but to my way of thinking, letting that bill get out of the Senate with ANY anti-gun amendments in the hope of getting them removed later is a really risky scheme (Hey Algore...).

*Please* keep this bumped until 5 or 6 PM EST today (2/24). And call your Senator's office - *especially* if he/she/it is a waffling RINO.

And... pass the word via email and on other forums...

Here is an email from the AW ban site, with further details:

From: "Sunset News" sunsetnews@awbansunset.com
Sent: Monday, February 23, 2004 5:18 PM
Subject: [sunsetnews] AWB Renewal Vote THIS WEEK - Call your Senators Tuesday!!!

S.659, the bill that will help eliminate frivolous lawsuits against the firearms industry, will be taken up in the Senate this week, possibly as soon as tomorrow. It is widely reported that Sen. Feinstein will attempt to amend the bill with a renewal of the 1994 "Assault Weapons" Ban.

The anti-gun lobby is staging a "phone-in" tomorrow (Tuesday, February 24th) in opposition to S.659. Though the bill already has enough co-sponsors (54) to ensure passage, a filibuster could still be attempted, which is presumably what the anti-gun side is hoping for.

To ensure our elected officials know they will lose more votes than they gain by supporting a renewal of the AWB, we all need to do our part by calling our Senators and voicing our strong opposition to the Feinstein AWB renewal amendment that will be offered for S.659... not only should this ban not be renewed, it should not be allowed to cloud the issue of whether S.659, an unrelated bill, should be passed.

The anti-gun folks are asking their people to call between the following hours:

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM Central Standard Time
7:00 AM - 11:00 AM Mountain Standard Time
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM Pacific Standard Time

Call 202-224-3121 and ask for one of your Senators' offices (you'll have to call back to reach the other one).
< NOTE - This isn't always true; sometimes you can get them to transfer you >

Even if you've already called your Senators in the past few weeks, CALL AGAIN tomorrow. Be polite, but firm in your opposition to Feinstein's AWB renewal amendment. Please spread the word to everyone you know.

Thank you, everyone, for taking an active role in ensuring this useless ban does indeed sunset this September.

Once again - *please* keep this bumped throughout the day today (Tuesday 2/24).

It seems that the Consumer Federation of America is a front organization for the Violence Policy Center. Naomi Seligman speaks for both. A google search reveals she speaks for other gun grabbing groups.
Come and take them.

Even the BATF itself has said that such ballistic databases are worthless in SOLVING crimes. The only time ballistics is of any use is AFTER the gun in question has been obtained by law enforcement.

Time to hit the phones again, good people. Just ten minutes of your time to call your two Senators. Thanks.

The time you're on the phone calling the anti's ties up their phone for other business and the other side can't get through. Don't forget to call Bill Frist, our majority leader.

Time to make some calls. Even if you're in an area where the Senators are anti's, take the opportuntity to tell them they're wrecking their Party.

Don't forget to call the Senate majority leader. The numbers are listed on the thread.
