After passing on theatrical distribution on what has turned out to be the surprise hit movie of the year, 20th Century Fox has 'resurrected' its relationship with Mel Gibson's Icon Productions and will distribute 'The Passion of the Christ' on video, reports Video Business.
No details were immediately known relative to the terms of the deal or the timing of the video release, but a spokesman for FOX said the studio is finalizing a deal for domestic video rights as well as international theatrical and home video rights in Taiwan and Latin America.
It was not clear whether the video rights wer shopped around, but it was a logical deal for FOX, which has a first look production deal with Icon.

FOX Home Video to Distribute Mel Gibson's 'Passion' Internationally (my, that was fast!) They have to beat the copies that will be coming out on the Chinese street next week. Titanic was just out in the theaters and you could already get the movie on disc in China.

Interesting that you mention this because I just heard a report yesterday about the lack of bootleg copies of "The Passion of the Christ" at all the usual haunts here in NY.
Seems that the bootleggers consider it bad joss (is that the right word?) and have said they won't touch it.
We'll see, I guess.

I want to see it again also. But I will let my lady see it again and my mom and mother in law since they couldn't see it when two of us went to see it. They decided to take care of kids for us. So now is my turn to help :} I will just wait when they come back. I want to see (mom and mother in law) expression on their faces
To: ainsley
This is what was wrong with Hollywood. They were telling us what we want to see. Not listening to us.
I think half of them actually believed it would not do well.
To: bogdanPolska12
Same here. We've seen the movie twice already, but still can't wait for the DVD.

Mel not only couldn't get a studio to help him, he couldn't even find a distributor until the last moment (Newmarket) and then he paid all of adverstising himself!

Also, Hollywood has an agenda. It has reportedly an overrepresentation of people from the porn industry and/or those whose agenda is to attack family values. And since in this film there were no bedroom romps or one night stands it infuriated Hollywood power structure.
Incidentally, they are still hraping on Chris Mathews show at this moment about the film. I have not seen anything like this for any of the demented films. In recent years I can think of only "Gods and Generals" that for no reason at all lead to some hysteria.
