Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing division of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next iteration in the globally successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. Developed by world-class designers Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and is expected to be in stores in North America on October 19, 2004 and in Europe on October 22, 2004.
"In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed peoples expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, stated Sam Houser, President of Rockstar Games. Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we cant wait to get the game into players hands.
Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North, stated, "We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values."
Over 30 million units of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been shipped to date, including over 11.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and over 10.5 million units of Grand Theft Auto 3.

I am personally a fan of the Max Payne series by Rockstar Games.
I have not finished MP 2 yet, not a lot of time left for games with work and school.

I have a question ---
What ever happened to the "good guy", 'save the world", "save the universe" sort of games? I am rather tired of the games promoting felony behavior. And no, I don't blame these games for the behavior of real car thieves. On the other hand, glorifying the behavior certainly does nothing to discourage it.

What ever happened to the "good guy", 'save the world", "save the universe" sort of games? They're still out there; just nowhere near as plentiful as they used to be.
I'll admit that GTA3 and Vice City are guilty pleaures of mine.
Then again, I'm rabidly addicted to SSX 3 (snowboarding) these days.

They're still around, and are still the majority i'd say. GTA just gets more attention because it's controversial.

Yeah, but by the time it came out I had an X-box.
Generally I prefer to play games on the platform that they were mainly designed for. I'd take Halo 2 on Xbox before PC, but I wouldn't touch X-box Doom3 with a 10-foot pole.

I don't have a console system, been a die hard PC gamer.
I have played a lot of Halo though on one of my two brothers systems. I assume a bigger, better system will be out before I buy one for myself.
I have my XBox controller/USB adapter/drivers ready, I just need to pick up the PC version and go for it.

When I had a lot of time on my hands (boy that's some spin) I must of played CounterStrike for 8 hours a day. What I liked about it was that all skill levels could play and people tended to group on the same server.
Watching some friends of mine play Doom / Quake deathmatchs it was just a blur. Not that much in the way of interesting play.
Thankfully my PC's power system blew up and took the motherboard with it.

I love my PC games too, there's been alot happening in the console arena for the last couple of years. And now that bioware is developing for Xbox, there's even more reason to pick one up. (also have me a gamecube- Metroid Prime was a friggin' work of art!)
