Hey HOTD, are you still playin'?
I finish GTA:VC over Christmas and just completed SW:Kotor (Knights of the old Republic). Kotor was the best game I've ever played as far as an RPG style game. GTA was just fun with no end. Even after you finished it was fun to go back and screw around.
I recommend both.

What ever happened to the "good guy", 'save the world", "save the universe" sort of games? Personally, I've worked on 5 games now, and 3 of them fall into the category you describe there. I did the AI on Dragon's Lair 3D, which was a modern re-make of Dragon's Lair. Hardly the most technically advanced game, it's still a "hero braves dangers to rescue the princess" story. The other 2 I've done that meet that category are Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, and currently, Medal of Honor: World War II heroes. You play an allied soldier, and fight the axis powers. You're a grunt, not trying to save the world, but you're still fighting for the good guys.
For the other two... I worked on Tao Feng, a two person fighting game. We had a good and bad side, but unless you bothered reading the manual or listening to the rather boring story text, you'd never know which was which. It was a fighter, that's all. The other is GoldenEye II, which I'm working on now, where you are a bad guy in the Bond universe. For that one, in the end, we wanted to do something different with the Bond franchise, and got permission to do this one.
So, with Tao Feng sort of in the middle, I'll call it 3.5 out of 5. Not too bad really - most games still have you as the good guy.

Don't you mean: Gran-th-phato? That's what it's called in my household.

The UT2004 demo is out and in this game you can fly craft much like Halo. it's an upgrade over UT2003, but I just got sick of DM so i needed something else...
There's a whole world of great racing sims out now, plus a thriving modding community.

I simply can not wait that long.
I want it now.
Aside from SSX3 GTA series (mostly vice city) are the only PS2 games that can hold my attention for more than a few minutes.

I seriously wish I understood either one of those sentences. Perhaps I understood the second sentence which refers, I think, to people who come up with game modifications and scenarios different than what comes in the box.
I'm not as cool as I used to be.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? The big secret before was where the next location is. Which, given that San Andreas was the last city in the original GTA, this news isn't surprising.
As for me...waiting for Halo 2 too. By the time its out though...Xbox 2 might be out. Or Xbox 3. :-P

"Good thing I discovered Medieval: Total War to keep me occupied for now :)"
Medieval: Total War is simply one of the best games ever created.
Anyone who enjoys both turn based and real-time strategy games will LOVE Medieval: Total War's combination of the two. The best part about it is the details, like religion, assasins, historical notes, realistic terran, historically accurate nations, etc.
The only thing that angered me about the game is the PC treatment of Islam.

And the Pope is a MAJOR pain in the ass...
But Inquisitors alone make Catholic factions worth playing:)

SOrry bout that. Unreal Tournament is a game that's been out for awhile and is a Death match(DM) style game. it's sort of a space/sci-fi themed game. There is a new demo out of the next isntallment that is pretty fun.
Planet Unreal is a place where you can find links to download it.
Games have kept up, and are really leading, the pace of technology.

Deathmatch, instaglib, low gravity at UT2003 my name is MAYHEM

I've got Unreal Tournament on my machine. My son makes sure that I have all the coolest games installed so that he can kill me, although I've embarrassed him occasionally.
My Counterstrke moniker is Hillary Wideass Clinton, and I figured that name would be good on either the killing or killed end of the equation. I'm not bad against the teenagers. My reflexes aren't as sharp, but my stratergy beats them more often than not.

I loved GTA3, GTA:VC was also excellent. Waiting for San Andreas, maybe I will buy a PS2.
To: mhking
I loved GTA3, so I dutifully bought Vice City. Maybe it's the familiarty or lack of newness, but VC feels like doing chores. I'm maybe a tenth of the way into but find excuses to not play it. It just doesn't grab like GTA3 did.
The best game I've played in the last year has to be Mafia.
