The Hypocrisy of Tolerance - (Rep. Corrine Brown's (D)racist remarks)
The Reality Check ^ | 03 March 2004 | Liz Polson

Posted on 03/03/2004 10:15:22 AM PST by Lando Lincoln

When I sit back and read the day’s news, there’s nothing I can do but sit in disgust and restrain myself from banging my head against the nearest brick wall. On almost every newscast, in every newspaper there’s some story of intolerance and hate speech.

Ever notice how “tolerance” is a hot button? It’s used for everything, especially mocking and dehumanizing others who have a different viewpoint, a viewpoint other than those that society has thrust upon us.

The problem with tolerance in today’s society is that it is a one way street. And the root of that is the “party of tolerance” itself, the Democratic Party and other assorted liberals. There's only one way to be tolerant, and that's to be like them and to be in agreement with them. What happens if you aren't, you ask?

You’re intolerant and hateful. Pro-Life? Intolerant and anti-woman. In disagreement over gay marriage? Intolerant and a homophobe. Need I go on? You see it every day as well as I.

Liberals truly believe they are so high and mighty that they have the omnipotent knowledge to label someone a racist and at the same time make their own repulsive and intolerant statements about others.

The catalyst behind this column is my personal outrage at the latest lack of outrage, if you will, over the representative Corrine Brown’s comments that all of Bush’s Administration are a “bunch of white men” and racist in their policies towards Haiti. When the Assistant Secretary of State Roger Noriega, the State Department’s highest ranking Mexican American and a Republican, confronted her pointing out that he surely is not white and by no means racist, her response to him was “you all look alike to me”.

What do you hear? Criticism? No. You hear silence. And this is what has me so riled.

While Texas Representative Harry Bonilla called for her to resign, the chairman of the Democratic Party in Duval County publicly stood behind Ms. Brown and her racist comments, attributing them to her “frustrat[ion] with the President's policy with regard to Haiti ”.

Well, I’m glad everything is okay then. She has an excuse for making racist and insensitive comments. Because of frustration, and because she is a Democrat. But what do us conservatives have? Just believing in what we believe we are labeled as being hateful. Now who’s being intolerant?

Can you possibly imagine what would happen if a conservative had made such a statement to someone? Sure you can, because it's happened before; the backlash and spite is not new.

Let’s look back in 2002, when Senator Trent Lott was forced to resign and basically publicly humiliated over making comments that the country would be better off if Sen. Strom Thurmond had been elected in 1948. Because Thurmond had a history of being a segregationist, Lott was rebuked as a racist and a hate-monger. If you truly look at history, while not denying Thurmond was a supporter of segregation (as was many other people at that time before the 1950s), when he ran in 1948 he had broken off of the “Dixiecrat” party and decided to run as a Republican. So, whose racial policies was he supporting prior to his split? You got it, the Democratic Party’s.

This story even gets better, when you dig a little bit. A top ranking Democrat by the name of Carl Levin, I’m sure you know him, said in September of same year: "I am pleased to join my colleagues in paying tribute to Senator Strom Thurmond and honoring him for his unparalleled record of public service to this Nation." You think that’s it? At the SAME event at which Lott made his comments, Thurmond’s birthday party, Joe Lieberman praised him as “an institution within an institution".

Notice how Lott, who was heaping praise onto an old Senator just as Sen. Lieberman was, was the ONLY one accused of being racist and hateful?

Do you see the double standard?

Trent Lott (Republican) forced to resign and humiliated by the media after making intolerant statements. Yes, given Thurmond's background and certain statements he made regarding African Americans, his resignation was justified.

Corrine Brown (Democrat) outwardly makes and admits later a racist and insensitive remark and all you hear is the brisk breeze caused by a collective turning of heads in the other direction. Not only that, but the chair of the Duval County Democratic Party gets behind her and makes excuses for her venom. Her resignation should be forced, just as Lott's was.

I would love to know why there is a double standard. WHY are conservatives continually branded as racist, rich, white, hateful and closed-minded? WHY when liberals make insensitive remarks about others it’s all alright? I want to know.

I could give you countless examples of conservative students being branded as hateful by their liberal professors, your everyday joes humiliated for expressing their beliefs, and the absolute outward hate displayed towards conservative Christians and their stands on homosexuals and abortion.

I call for Corrine Brown’s resignation. No, I do not live in the state of Florida. But a public official in Palm Beach or Podunk City , Republican or a Democrat, President or City Councilperson, should be allowed to keep their public office after publicly making racist statements like those made by Corrine Brown, especially when public officials like Trent Lott have been forced to leave office because of similar remarks. The double standard, the one way street in this country needs to be fixed.

People need to realize who is truly intolerant in this country, and it’s the very people and party that proclaim to be tolerant and all-inclusive.

Let’s not let them get away with it.

The reason the Left gets away with their intolerance is because they have a sympathetic press and a host of sympathetic special interest groups.

The reason the Right gets crucified for even the most innocuous remark is because they have a hostile press and a host of Leftist special interest groups who will cry foul to the hostile press at every turn.

It's alright when they do it because they control the media. These people have an agenda to push, and like every good commie, they use every tactic they can to silence the opposition. "Tolerance" is one of those tactics. They call anyone who disagrees with them intolerant, thereby crucifying that person and setting an example of future compliance by all people who might have an opposing position.

There is a double standard because it is politcally incorrect to label a black legislator a racist pig like they do to anny nationality on the conservative side.

Well, in all fairness to the Lott debacle, the GOP was only too glad to get him to step down. He was losing to Daschle for chris'sakes. So there wasn't much of a fight put up to keep him in place.

All other points are nicely made. Thanks for posting.

As a Christian, I am constantly being called intolerant. I wonder if these liberals realize they are violating their own definition of tolerance by simply labeling me, you or anyone else as intolerant just because we disagree with their political views? I wonder if they care. Chances are the liberals do know of their hypocrisy, and don't care.

Exactly. If a Democrat makes hateful and racist remarks in Congress but the press doesn't report it, did it really happen?

It's simple really. The left owns the news/entertainment business and the education process. Until we are able to make a stand within those institutions, it will continue as is. And get worse.

Chances are the liberals do know of their hypocrisy, and don't care.

Just remember that everything a leftist does is based in their motivation to gain and use power and destroy all opposition. Their actions become clearer when viewed from this angle.

The boundary between Brown's district and the one I live in (Cliff Stearns) is about five blocks to the east of me. Her district is a "minority access" district, but she is such a bad politician that the Republican usually gets about 40% of the vote against her.

There really is only one way to solve these problems.

/rant on

When accused, tell the Rat to shut the Kerry up. Then you bring it into the public for your supporters to back you.

All you need is one person on the national news saying that affirmative action and political correctness is the product of a Marxist society.

Question the media about their Marxist tendencies. Threaten your newspapers with ending your subscription. Stop buying newspapers, magazines and watching network TV. Send a letter to a sponsor of CNNABCNBCCBSNSNBC and tell them that you are no longer buying their products.

We have to fight. We have to organize. We have to get the word out.

/Rant off

I just double-checked myself. She was first elected in 1992. Her vote has ranged from 55.4 to 61.2%, breaking 60% only that once.

True, very true. Never in my life have I seen a group more bent on complete and total control of nation since the communists controlled the USSR. Personally, I don't think communism is dead. Communism is alive and well right here in the USA, just look at the liberals.

Welcome to the light of day! Nearly every "progressive" Democrat in Congress operates on Communist principles and doesn't even try to hide it. Americans have been brainwashed and the libs control the language. Go to this link and do some studying on their tactics: Rules for Radicals
