[history]
March 8 (Bloomberg) -- Anthony Whitmore lost his job as a die press operator at Midland Steel Products in Cleveland 10 months ago and holds little hope of finding work. In Chester, Pennsylvania, Chris Rabzak, a former aerospace engineer with a law degree, is stretching out his master's program in business administration rather than jumping into the labor market.

Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate is determined by a telephone poll of 60,000 households each month. They ask a few simple questions. Do You Have job?, If not - Are you looking for a job? and if your not and not you are considered "not in labor force".
I have never been polled, no-one I know has ever been polled.
60,000 a month means 720,000 per year and no-one I know has ever been called in my entire life. Howabout you???

It really does not take much to stay alive in the USA at this time. Most folks have to "lower their expectations", a nice euphemism, but a very little prudence is needed to stay reasonably warm and fed.
The situation could easily become unpleasant politically, though. Hillary is waiting, Shelob in her lair.
Fixing the situation is not trivial. "Treasury Secretary John Snow, who in October said he would ``stake my reputation'' on a pickup in job growth by Christmas..." Well, Snow is an idiot.
Lots of hubris to repent before this is over. The economists are ivory tower fools. Well, random processes revert to the mean.

Look. 5.6% employment is historically low over the last 50 years, ESPECIALLY when factoring in the two income households. This entire "issue" reminds me of homelessness. The homeless disappear when Democrats are in and then they magically reappear when the GOP is in.

It's a grand conspiracy? No it is piss poor reporting. Every darn one of the "drop out" threads is anecdotal. The media doesn't like good news so they manufacture some bad news by talking to people that prefer being professional students to getting off their butts and finding a job. I liked college too but I grew out of it.

Really odd story. Employment in the US is at an all time high. 138.9 million workers. 1.5 million more than when Bush took office.
Story have an agenda, no way. That Bloomberg guy is a straight shooter. On second thought ....

In Chester, Pennsylvania, Chris Rabzak, a former aerospace engineer with a law degree, is stretching out his master's program in business administration rather than jumping into the labor market. ``Every month some economist comes out and says that next month or next year things will get better -- I don't believe them anymore,'' said Rabzak, 36. Looks, to me, like this guy is a "professional student". He's an engineer, with a law degree, currently "stretching out" his MBA. Yep, it's the president's fault he isn't working.(sarcasm)
