I'm listening to the incredible story about the offer of pizza by the guy to McCoy in Las Vegas and the man recognizing McCoy..This man really pursues it to convince the authorities.He's a great citizen in my book.

Brief segment from yesterday's Imus show:

Imus sidekick Charles McCord was reading through the national news stories at the top of the hour, and after he read through the announcement that the police had identified the suspect as Charles McCoy, there was a tangible, uncomfortable silence.

Imus: "Is there something you're not telling us, Charles?"

That reminds me of a "racial profiling" incident from a few years ago. While playing roller hockey in a shopping center parking lot, I noticed a black woman walking alone along the sidewalk between the parking lot and the street. Something about her just didn't "look right" to me -- partly because I was living in a mostly-white town, but mainly because she looked like a shopper but was walking on the side of the parking lot away from all the stores.

I couldn't make this story up . . .

About half an hour later, a police car pulled into the parking lot where we were playing and one of the cops asked us if we saw a black woman running away from one of the clothing stores -- she was suspected of shoplifting in the women's clothing store in the shopping center.

"Sure," I said (nobody else in our group of about ten guys had even noticed her), "She walked along that sidewalk over there at almost exactly 3:25 PM (I remembered this because I had made note of the time on the big digital clock outside the bank next to the lot where we were playing), carrying a shopping back in her right hand. She was about 5'4" tall, with a normal build. She was dressed in a black blouse and a long skirt with a multi-colored, flowery pattern. I kept an eye on her as she crossed the street and made her way through the Wal-Mart parking lot over there, then lost sight of her. Based on her direction of travel, I'd say she wasn't going to Wal-Mart, but was cutting across the parking lot to get to the next street. I'll bet she's either waiting for the #67 bus on Belmont Drive at the top of the hill, or just got on one in the last 15 minutes."

The two cops and all of my teammates looked at me like I was from another planet, then the cops thanked us and hurried off to look for her.

The last few months have not been fun for us here in the Columbus area. All of my family lives in, or within a 50 mile radius of Columbus. My daughter and son in law live there, and the school district where my daughter teaches closed for two days when he was shooting at school and busses.

Believe me, it's no fun taking your 79 year old mother to her doctor's appointment for a post-cancer checkup in C-bus, and seeing the fear on her face as we approached every overpass.

Ironically, my sister and her hubby are in Vegas this week. She called earlier today, and said they had been at the casino where he was seen, earlier in the week.

A big thank you to the gentleman who had the forethought to watch and pay attention to the news, and get this man caught. Ohioians are breathing a big sigh of relief today thanks to him.

My cousin's daughter was brutally murdered two years ago, and courtesy of our liberal justice system, we're still waiting for her killer to go to trial. Have you ever lost a loved one due to a violent crime? Just wondering.

You left out a few others who got off on technicalities:

Richard Jewell, the guy the FBI and the Atlanta Constitution tried to frame for the Atlanta Olympic bombing. He got off on the technicality of being innocent.

Don't forget those hispanic defendants convicted of drug crimes in Dallas who are now getting off on the technicality that the dope that the cops planted on them wasn't cocaine at all, but was merely chalk used in pool halls. It must tear you up to see these innocent folks beat the rap.

And don't forget those Black folks framed out in west Texas who are not only getting their convictions expunged, but are getting money in settlement of their wrongfull convictions.

Then there was the medical examiner who falsified his reports to boost the conviction rate...

Yes, you caught me - I'm a Jeffersonian liberal who believes in fair trials.
