SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Wednesday told county leaders unhappy with parts of his budget plan that eliminating the state's deficit will require sacrifices.

"Everyone here has to tighten the belt, because if we don't balance our budget we risk every program for years to come," Schwarzenegger said at the California State Association of Counties conference.

Arnold got elected telling us that he had voted for Prop 187 and that he was against drivers' licenses for illegals. Now he's for drivers' licenses for illegals. I wonder if he still agrees with the principles of Prop 187? >sarcasm<

CSAC is still going ahead with a ballot measure to the people to forbid the state from stealing county revenues like Wilson started doing after the teachers unions got Jack Lemmon to lie his a$$ off to get Prop 98 passed to consitutionally lock up 40% of the state's budget into K-12 edyoukayshun!!!

I wouldn't count on it. I've already decided that this illegal issue is a deal breaker for me. I won't vote for JFingK but will refrain from voting for Dubya too. it pains me to say it, but that's where I am right now.

I've already called Duncan Hunter's office and told him I didn't vote for him on March 2 because he is not vocal enough on this issue.

The suit was filed Thursday in Alameda County Superior Court over plans to repay the bond with cities' sales taxes.

WHOA...When did this happen ? My reps are totally separated from reality and vote to screw their constituents every day including the small businesses that drive most cities. Local sales tax is vital as it replaces the property taxes taken from us by the inmates of Sacramento ...

Maybe the drivers licenses to Mexican citizens should at least have very high fees. You can bet almost everyone in Mexico will soon be making a trip up to California --- that drivers license will allow all of them to vote here and travel here as they wish.

Over the last year, it's been estimated at anywhere from 10-20 million, looks like it will be on the high end of that range.

The incalcitrant tax and SPENDERS in Sacramento still don't get it.. But They will in November ... If the sheople wake the heck up before the tax axe hits 'em and hits 'em hard .. There ain't gonna be many "rich folks" left to raise taxes on tho' at this rate...

I've become much more sanquine about the illegal immigration debate over the last few years. The reason for my complacency?

As a disciple of the Hayek/Freidman school of economics, when Milton says that a nation cannot simultaneously support both open immigration and a welfare state, he is stating what we are now seeing as observable proof.

Since illegal immigration is not going to end, the welfare state will end. Calif is a prime example for all to see - the world's 6/7th largest economy brought to its knees.

Down here in OC, the movement towards non-public education (both homeschool and private) is an unstoppable trend. Once people become accustomed to the fact that Calif is not the way it was when we grew up here, then we can all adjust to the new realities.

It simply means less reliance on the state (education, roads, police, etc) and more reliance on private ie self-funded services (education, tool/private roads, guards, etc).

I was one of those who raged at the failure of the system back during 187. It's almost like the 5 stages of grief: I'm now at acceptance.

What happens when you cut off the welfare? We all need to look at what the conditions in Mexico are --- the 12 foot fences with barbed wire and cut glass around every home, the iron bars on windows and doors, the need to buy kidnapping insurance. Child beggars on every street, and we're going to have the next Mexican Revolution going on here in this country. When immigration stops failing to provide the steam valve it does now, things will explode. The SW is already seeing quite a number of race riots in the schools.
