Senate approves voter registration at hunting license sites

ATLANTA - Call it the Shooter Voter bill.

The state Senate unanimously approved a plan Wednesday that would require businesses that sell hunting and fishing licenses to also act as voter registration sites.

Sen. Preston Smith, R-Rome, said the bill is modeled after the federal Motor Voter bill - which allows voter registration at sites where driver's licenses are issued - and intended to increase voter turnout.

"The purpose of this bill is to encourage Georgians to come out and to participate in our political process," Smith said.

The plan was sponsored by Republicans and Democrats, both of whom hope to appeal to "NASCAR dads," a newly created political term for white, mostly rural, family oriented men.

The bill was supported by the National Rifle Association, which Smith said hopes to use it as a model for legislation across the nation.

The plan, which passed 48-0, now goes to the House.

Now if we could have the opposite service at the Social Security and Welfare office.

If you can't manage your own finances and are receiving public charity, you have no business voting.

Don't worry, there are vans to make sure 110% of the welfare voters get to the polls. And if someone should neglect to do their civic duty, there are others in that crowd to make sure every vote is cast, including those in the cemetaries, the lunatic asylums and the ICU's of nursing homes.

Hey, it might be a trickle against the flood, but every vote counts!
