Frat Member Found Wrapped In Plastic, Tied To Tree

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A possible hazing incident is under investigation at the University of Central Florida. Campus police say they found a fraternity member covered in plastic wrap, tied to a tree.

The UCF fraternity says it is conducting its own investigation and doesn't believe there was any hazing going on. Fraternity members claim some people were just celebrating after giving a girl a gift.

Members of Phi Beta Phi called police to their sorority house after someone found Phi Delta Theta fraternity member Sean Pierce wrapped in saran wrap from head to toe and tied to a tree. Police also say that Pierce was covered in shaving cream, oil and other products. There was apparently a group of fraternity members standing around in the back yard of the sorority house laughing at Pierce.

Fraternity members say they do not condone hazing and Pierce was just celebrating after giving his girlfriend a lavaliere.

"Im very surprised. I think it's been blown way out of proportion. Right when the issue came up, we dealt with it right away and we were a step ahead and we went into the university and head of Greek life," says Phi Delta Theta President Christopher Merritt.

UCF police recorded the alleged hazing incident on tape. University members are now reviewing that tape to determine whether or not a hazing incident occurred.

University officials say the Student Conduct Review Board is currently investigating. They tell us the fraternity has not had any previous problems with any hazing incidents.

If the guy was giving his g-friend a lavaliere, then he is probably an initiated member. Hardly 'Hazing' in the sense being thrown around down here. Stuff like this is normal on campuses around the country, and part of the deal if a guy choses to do the lavaliere ceremony. Anyone I knew that had similar things happen, knew it was going to happen and loved every minute of it.

some people were just celebrating after giving a girl a gift.

Certainly well within the range of normal behavior, I'd say. When one fellow gives a girl a gift, all of his friends and acquaintances are just so darn pleased, they cover him in oil and wrap him in Saran Wrap. Nothing to see here ...

I'd to see how they react at Christmas time, however, as the whole gift-giving spirit of the holiday probably causes a few young heads full of mush to explode.

Thank you..... must we use 50-cent words when 25-cent words would be better?

Of what relevance is the pendent-giving to the incident?.... is this a frat thing?

Probably.... in the long run.

In the dorms, we once moved a guy outside while he was crashed-passed out. We didn't just move him.... we set his whole room up outside.

Yes, it is definately a "Fraternity thing". Pinned is basically dating, and lavaliered is "more serious" dating. Not that any sort of commitment while living in a fraternity carries any long term significance lasting longer than the duration of physical presence.

Those were the days...

If he was pinning his girlfriend (hehehe) he damn well better have alreay been an initiated brother. I knew a guy in college who pinned his gfriend while he was still pledging (she whined about it until he would do it) and he got blackballed out of the organization.

Said "tongue in cheek".... ; )

I always laugh about the "good old days" in high school, too. Back when they mostly "didn't prosecute"...

Yea! My soph year, my suitemates and I tied up my roommate with duct tape, carried him into the elevator and sent him down stopping at each floor (we lived on the 19th).

Oh yeah.... I am hip with that....

Would be sad to be in college today when you can't even saran-wrap a guy to a tree any more!

Obviously, the reporter is a GDI. Any self-respecting member of the Greek community knows it's Pi Beta Phi sorority; aka Pi Phi.</snotty sorority girl>

At first glance, I thought the title read "FR Member Found Wrapped In Plastic, Tied To Tree." LOL. I was prepared to start guessing screen names.
