We Can Still Smell Red Meat (al Qaeda and OKC! From Clarke!!)
Just One Minute (Weblog) ^ | March 26, 2004 | unknown

The always fascinating Dan Drezner has a bunch of good posts up.. sorry, we are going to skip to the red meat:

On Page 127 [of his new "Against All Enemies"], Clarke notes that it's possible that al-Qaida operatives in the Philippines "taught Terry Nichols how to blow up the Oklahoma Federal Building." Intelligence places Nichols there on the same days as Ramzi Yousef, and "we do know that Nichols's bombs did not work before his Philippines stay and were deadly when he returned."

This ties in to the theory that Clinton quashed investigations into a foreign connection to Terry Nichols. The objective - blame Oklahoma City on right-wing wackos for political purposes. The subtle message - the people who voted for Newt and listen to Rush blew up this building. Hey, we report, you deride.

I'm not about to buy this friggin book, but could any who has a copy verify this? We could have a field day whacking liberal columnists over the head with it.

Theres a lot of BLOCKBUSTER stuff going on in that case. The judge threatened to "dismiss with predjudice" the other day because 3 jurors were found to be cousins of the prosecutor.

FOX mentioned it but nobody else touched it.

"we do know that Nichols's bombs did not work before his Philippines stay and were deadly when he returned."

Why does he assume that Nichol's had any "bombs" before? Sounds like he knows something...and what did he do to investigate?

This ties in to the theory that Clinton quashed investigations into a foreign connection to Terry Nichols.

Same as Nichols' current defense team. Showing evidence of his proven trips to Philippines, demanding the Subway sandwich shop videotape, none of this would help their client. So in their pursuit of "the truth" they focus on a dead guy, McVeigh, and invoke innuendo about McVeigh's relationship to Elohim City. It's a deflection, and a deflection that might be promoted by some in the govt.

I'm not buying a copy of the book, but my local Walmart had four copies when I checked yesterday morning ($18.44).

But Clarke postulates that Nichols learned how to build bombs in the Philipines--with a Ramsi Yousef tie in? Now *that's* a blockbuster.

If I recall correctly there was info posted here some time back showing a connection between AQ, Iraqi intel and the OKC bombers in the Philippines.

Yeah, but a lot of people have associated this idea with the lunatic fringe in the absence of hard evidence.

At least here it is being written by the head of US anti-terrorism efforts at the time, serial liar that he is.

This takes it to a new level where the mainstream media may want to give it a second look.

Given that it was John Kerry himself who listed TWA 800 as a terrorist act against America, it would seem that Clinton chose to ignore anything that would require leadership or taking any action that would protect America.

If you all remember that before the Gulf War we were warned time and again that we may see terrorism if we started the war.

Also during testimony before the 911 commission, former Sec of Def Cohen made reference to Iraqi Intel being involved with the so-called chemical weapons plant in Sudan that Bin Laden owned. This stuff is starting to surface all over the place.

I haven't read the report. Is it on line? How was it authorized, who was on it and what did it have to say about al Qaeda?

He posts elsewhere now.

Am I allowed to mention Liberty Post, the refuge for many banned, conservative former-freepers?

The committee was headed by former OK rep Charles Key. the Libarary of congress number is listed as 2001117318. I suppose a google search of the OKC boming investgatibve committee will give you better answers than i can. (it is after all some 550 pages long)

I don't know if it was a slip or a known fact, but Sandy Burger said that at first they thought that flight 800 was shot down by Syria or Syrians.

Thanks for putting this on. I was trying to get it on some discussion page and found your posting. I did find it in the book yesterday and can verify it. I wrote down word for word what was in the book but did not purchase the book. Here it is:

Against All Enemies

By Richard A. Clarke

Page 127

Another conspiracy theory intrigued me because I could never disprove it. The theory seemed unlikely on its face: Ramzi Yousef or Khalid Sheik Muhammad had taught Terry Nichols how to blow up the Oklahoma Federal Building. The problem was that, upon investigation, we established that both Ramzi Yousef and Nichols had been in the city of Cebu on the same days. I had been to Cebu years earlier; it is on an island in the Central Philippines. It was a town in which word could have spread that a local girl was bringing her American boy friend home and that the American hated the U. S. government.

Yousef and Khald Sheik Muhammad had gone there to help create an al Qaeda spinoff, a Philippine affiliate Chapter, named after a hero of the Afghan war against the Soviets, Abu Sayaff. Could the al Qaeda explosives experts have been introduced to the angry American who proclaimed his hatred for the U.S. Government? We do not know, despite some FBI investigation. We do know that Nichols’ bombs did not work before his Philippine stay and were deadly when he returned. We also know that Nichols continued to call Cebu long after his wife returned to the United States. The final coincidence is that several al Qaeda operatives had attended a radical Islamic conference a few years earlier in, of all places, Oklahoma City.

Also, L.A. Weekly has a story by Jim Crogan titled Secrets of Timothy McVeigh. I couldn't find it posted anywhere. Here is the link:
