Does "cutting" mean the jobs will totally disappear or just disappear from the US ??

In this context I suspect they're gone for good. Due to the do-not-call list, there just aren't as many numbers they can call anymore.

Does "cutting" mean the jobs will totally disappear or just disappear from the US ?? It appears they will cut for now and give it some time to see whether they can live without. If the need is still there, hiring is a separate decision, and well may be done outside the U.S.
That is not relevant, however.

And this would have nothing to do with the imploding and overinflated revenue under Worldcom, right?

I guess I'm supposed to feel guilty for selfishly not wanting to be pay to have a home line, have purchased my own phone, and then not wanted to be interrupted during dinner, from company, or from my nap to decline offers I neither signed for, or wanted.
Somehow, I still feel fine with my decisions.

"to reduce overall costs by 15% to 20%..."
How far will this cost cutting go? Splitting toilet paper ? Heck the best you can do is kill yourself ! Imagine
HOW MUCH you save on:
rent
food
clothing
electricity
gas
...

So this is one of those rare instances where I don't care if MCI moves offshore.
Hey MCI... go harass Indian and Chinese consumers when they're trying to relax at home.
Don't call us, we'll call you. (Or maybe we won't)

Just what we need. Two of the states losing MCI jobs are Colorado and Ohio; two battleground states in the Prez election this year. Not good for our team.
They will probably send the jobs to India. Everytime I call the SBC Yahoo DSL support line, I get someone with an Indian accent. Some of them you can hardly understand.

I do not have any sympathy for telemarketers. I get hit about five times a day. Fortunately, I have caller ID, so if I see "Out of Area" or some marketing outfit, I hit the 'answer' button and immediately hang it up, so it'll stop ringing.
In desperation in the late eighties, I did the telemarketing thing. For less than one shift. I walked out on it- it didn't feel like an honest days work. I told the supe that. We were selling some kind of 'policeman's benefit' raffle thing. We were expected to evade direct questions about whether or not we were actually cops. The whole thing made me sick. I saw enough- never again.

Does this mean that all the telemarketers will have to go back to carjacking, working in brothels, or starring in carnival sideshows?

I think you're on to something.

Does "cutting" mean the jobs will totally disappear or just disappear from the US ?? Most likely they will completely disappear, and although I am as against government overregulation of business as most people around here, this no call list law is just an excuse. The reason is that MCI is in a declining industry that has tremendous pressure to lower costs, and many telecommunications companies are being shaken out. MCI will probably not survive.
To: traumer
Telemarketing companies are hiring in Mexico, Canada and India to get around the "do not call list"
It was government putting people out of work.

Maybe the first job to be cut is James' Taylor's doing the commercials.
Isn't this the same outfit that had Danny Glover doing their commercials for awhile?
