Posted on Fri, Mar. 26, 2004 The color of identity -- 50 years from now WHO SAID ANGLO-PROTESTANTS HAVE THE ONE-AND-ONLY FORMULA FOR THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE? By Joe Rodriguez Mercury News After reading an article on how Latino immigrants threaten America's identity, values and way of life, I went looking for one of the culprits. Miriam Hernandez typed away at San Jose State University's Mexican American Studies office. The college senior and future schoolteacher wore a black T-shirt that said, ``Dangerous -- Highly Educated Chicano.''

``I identify as a Mexican,'' she said. ``Even though I've lived here most of my life, and I've become an American citizen and vote, I consider myself a Mexican. That's my culture.'' Our resident "La Raza" socialist cites an example of why Huntington and Hanson are racists. They mind that Latino immigrants continue calling themselves something besides Americans.
Everyone should, though. Especially them.

In 50 years, being "Mexican" will be like being Czech or Irish. Something to pull out on fiesta days. Except maybe in California, the Mexican immigrants, legal or not, come here for the same reasons the Czechs, Germans, Scots, Irish and even the Italians (another "swarthy" folk who were said not to assimilate quickly enough). In fact it is that way here in San Antonio for those "Mexicans" (Who BTW don't call themselves that, generally speaking) whose families have at least one or two generations of being born American. I have friend who startled my wife by referring to "Those darn Mexicans" one day. The fried is actually darker complected and more "indio" looking than most Mexican nationals.

``I identify as a Mexican,'' she said. ``Even though I've lived here most of my life, and I've become an American citizen and vote, I consider myself a Mexican. That's my culture.''This one quote damns the entire argument... and yet he won't back down.

I disagree.. She's a college senior, and a naturalized citizen.. Her "roots" ARE mexican... she's young, and just got here.. what do you expect?
Ask her again in 50 years, she may not consider herself as mexican anymore, and I will guarantee her children won't.. nor any grandchildren she may have, who may very well be english-only speakers as well..
I have seen it here in Kansas City, and speak from personal experience as a family with "mexican" members..
My niece's husband (1st generation american) speaks english and spanish, but learned his spanish in public school, not from his parents.. (they both speak spanish as a 1st language)
My niece (and her brother) are 1/8 mexican, 1/8 Cherokee, and both speak english only, as did their father.(and mother)
My niece and her husband have 3 children.. NONE of them speak spanish..
Freinds and neighbors, same thing.. Parents and grandparents may speak spanish, and even visit mexico regularly, but the kids? No Way, Man..
They don't want to go to mexico, often don't want to speak spanish...
It's not "their" culture.. not any more.

Joe Rodriguez can kiss my grits. Mexico is a corrupt piece of crap for many, if not most of it's inhabitants. That's why half the country is scrambling across the border. His comparisons of the U.S. to Mexico are absurd without recognizing the fact that the number of people voting with their feet, conclusively shows that Mexico is nothing we should want even pieces of the U.S. turning into.

Mexico is also a racist country. The elite Mexicans of European lineage are purposely driving the Mexicans of Indian descent out of the country into ours because they hate them. Just like Hitler but a little nicer. And Bush cozies up to Fox.

The only way Mexicans are ever going to get any respect is to go back to Mexico and fix their country up.

The thing of it is, there isn't any place to go once the culture is gone. Some days it feels like we're slipping into the event horizon....

Yep, where to go? Some sort of "free state project" looks like the only temporary refuge.

Huntington has a great article in the "American Conservative" that deals with culture and how America was shaped.

Mexico's melting pot, with Europeans, Indians and Africans in the mix, is much older and more racially advanced than America's.Mexicans must be masochists if they're leaving paradise for racist America.

. . .there is no doubt bitter feeling against all rebels, and I do not look for good feeling from northern friends or relatives.

Do a search on the authors other garbage....he is a racist IMHO. Ole' Joe has been spreading his 'hate white folks' views around here for years.
The 'murky news' is a perfect home for this liberal puke.
