Over the past few months I have become a HUGE fan of the Steve Kane Show which is local here in South Florida. At first I didn't like it because some of the commercials I found to be icky (Erection Injections and numerous plastic surgery ads). Okay, lets overlook some of the commercials and consider the show itself. It's GREAT! Why? Steve Kane himself provided the answer the other day. The fact is that on national radio the hosts (conservatives included) have to tone it down or lose their ad revenue. In Kane's case, he gets his own ads so has the freedom to speak his mind. Steve Kane's sidekick is Brian Craig the Boy Wonder who sort of acts as Kane's Robin to his Batman.

The Steve Kane show has a real South Florida flavor but it mainly talks about national issues. I think this is probably the best local radio talk show in the country.

Wow - I was wondering if he was still around. I used to work with him years ago here in Orlando when he was just getting started in radio. I was the engineer on his show. (It's when I was first getting started in my career as well).

Back then, I was a little more - shall we say, liberal thinking, than I am today. I wonder if he's grown a little more conservative or not (he was somewhat of a libertarian with liberal leanings back then)

Steve Kane is still very conservative. What makes the show work well is the interplay between Kane and his Boy Wonder sidekick, Brian Craig. They get into a lot of things that national talkshow hosts wouldn't dare touch. BTW, did you know that Steve Kane once worked for Dick Cavett?

FYI....Clemenza, you can use the link to listen in for one of things you are missing up in NY. LOTS of fireworks on this show. And if a caller is an idiot...they call him an IDIOT. They have a regular caller they call Liberal Barry which makes for funny moments. The other day some caller pretended to be a conservative who decided to oppose Bush. Steve Kane busted him on the air bigtime as a phony.

Steve and Brian ROCK!

This is one of the best shows of it's format, period. Most shows talk from a podium but Steve and Brian actively seek out and engage liberals in a mission of "Search and Humiliate". A day doesn't pass where they don't ground up some unprepared liberal.

Brian has really been "aces" lately. He has really polished his debating skills and it's becomming a joy to hear him verbally eviscerate liberal callers.

Steve is a master, and the other frequent guest hosts feel like old friends. It's a great show and worth listening to.

My mistake. I'm hearing Steve Kane on right now talking about The Alamo disaster. I guess he isn't on vacation. Interesting discussion now about The Alamo.

Like liberal Kevin the caller. They even had him come down to the studio to be a guest and was ground into mincemeat. I actually felt sorry for Liberal Kevin because he sounded like a nice (but very confused) guy. Did you listen in when Liberal Kevin was a guest?

I heard some replays of it and some discussion. I was in a meeting that morning early so I didn't get a chance to hear it all. But yeah, from what I heard, they chewed him up and spit him out.

Some people just go out of their way for a beating.

Correct that, I don't recall replays so much as Brian and other quoting what was said and the exchange.

Too bad we can't access replays. Some real gems are tossed around all the time.

I used to listen to Steve Kane back when he had Al Rantel on his show in the Clinton-Monica years. They moved him to a lower power, more obscure radio station, and so I stopped listening to him. I have caught his "tv" show at times though. A pretty entertaining show, less formal than most.

Midnight to 6 AM they replay the Steve Kane show. I often have trouble sleeping so I just flip on the show for the replays in the early AM.

Steve Kane used to be on 940 WINZ when it was an all talk format. They got bought out and turned into an all news format, so Steve bought 1400 WFTL, a low powered, Broward County only, station. He hired most of the local displaced talk hosts (including Al Rantel) and they had a most interesting station. It was at this point that Steve completed his transformation from liberal to conservative. He has been slowly changing over the years, but it seemed that business ownership pushed him over the edge.

Anyway, Clear Channel bought WFTL a few years later for enough money that Steve and his partners were pretty much set for life. They changed the station format and, once again, local talk was without a home.

Steve and his producer Brian ended up on WWNN where they basically buy the time from the station owner, Adam Clatsov (sp?). The station is only one of Adam's businesses, he is primarily the owner of an insurance company. He sells time on the station to a host of local business which makes it one big informercial most of the time. Steve and Brian are on the air from 6:00am to 10:00am and their show is rebroadcast overnight.

His show is financed by his sponsors, most of whom he has a personal relationship with. You hear about Steve's plastic surgeon, his favorite restaurants, the guy who remodeled his kitchen, his "male enhancement" doctor, his pool company, etc. It is pretty clear he personally trades much of his air time for services.

In any event, it is a HUGELY entertaining show. Steve is a Jew who has converted to Christianity, a liberal who has converted to Conservatism, a strident drug using, sexually cheating, immoral leftist who has seen the light and completely changed his life. He is willing to debate the issues with all callers and seems to prefer to have liberals call in and try to make their case.

HEY!!! Just a little while ago Brian Craig was reading this very thread on the air!!! Anyway, since Brian is reading this I hope Steve and Craig get a chance to interview John Dean who is hawking the latest Bush Bashing Book, Worse The Watergate. John Dean has NO CREDIBLITY since he claimed in a court deposition that he didn't even read his first book Blind Ambition. Will post more info on this in a few minutes.

Listening now. Defining a "hero." Sheesh. Richard sometimes is really thick.

A hero is defined by the side he serves, not necessarily by his actions. A "hero of the Reich" put jews into ovens. We wouldn't have considered him a hero but in 1942 Nazi Germany he would be. Had they won he would still be considered a hero.

Actually Al Rantel was an EXCELLENT radio host. He went on to work over at KABC over in L.A.

Are there 2 Al Rantel's ? I most certainly could be mistaken on this . I'm thinking of the AL that was on in what ... Palm Beach ? I'll have to double check this .
