BAGHDAD -- Shi'ite cleric Sheik Muqtada al-Sadr agreed yesterday to unconditional talks over his standoff with American forces that threatens to spark open warfare against the U.S.-led coalition in both southern Iraq and much of Baghdad.
Separately, kidnappings of Westerners sparked by the recent fighting in the Sunni Muslim city of Fallujah took an ugly turn when Al Jazeera television announced that it has video footage of a hostage being executed. The hostage was one of four Italians working for a U.S. security firm. Al Jazeera said it would not broadcast the film.

Hmmmm. I wonder why they wouldn't. Maybe because it was so disgusting that they finally feared public sentiment would turn against them?
...Nahhh.

Na, MUCH better to humiliate him by hauling him out in handcuffs, then video taping the booking.
Take video and broadcast all over Iraqi "See Jihadists" YOUR leaders Saddam and Sadr are not willing to be Martyrs, why should you die for THEM?"

Shi'ite cleric Sheik Muqtada al-Sadr agreed yesterday to unconditional talks over his standoff with American forces that threatens to spark open warfare against the U.S.-led coalition in both southern Iraq and much of Baghdad. Talks for unconditional surrender to face trial and then execution would be acceptable.
Obviously, he has faced the realization that his race is run.
Perhaps the backers of his little stint have had reason for second thought as to the Prudence of their support for him?

Many of Sadr's core supporters died in the opening days when they attacked camps in Karbala, Najaf and Kut. It has not been covered in the press but the Mahdi made repeated assaults on heavily fortified positions and personnel in the opening days and they sustained heavy losses.
The armed supporters Sadr has left are not very motivated and many prefer to be in civilian clothes.
The Mahdi are also being worked on by other-type coalition troops and helicopters. The media appears to prefer to cover only the areas where there are the most Coalition casualties.
Imo it's now a waiting game, Sadr appears to have run out of supporters and perhaps money and time.

IMHO they have cut their support and have jumped from a sinking ship.
