[Since Gannett newspapers won't allow excerpts, the text here is entirely mine and mine alone. The following is NOT from a Gannett newspaper, though it tells the same story with a few, ahem, embellishments.]
The imminent arrival of the USS Olympia has the Olympia city council, the capitol of The Peoples' Soviet of Washington, tied in a tizzy.
Fearing that it may implode, explode, blow up or otherwise damage the environment by leaking lots and lots of nasty radioactive waste or even its bilges into the South (Puget) Sound, the Olympia city council is draughting a resolution to tell the baby-killer sailors of the USS Olympia that their death-dealing submarine is not wanted anywhere in the City of Olympia.
Only three members of the council are objecting to the resolution: Douglas Mah, Jeannette Hawkins and Mark Foutch, Mayor of Olympia, whose re-election campaigns, whenever they occur, could use your support.
On the 25th of May there will be a public hearing on the resolution to keep Olympia safe from Olympia. Afraid that somebody from the public might actually attend, the motion's author, Teejai Johnston (whose re-election campaign, whenever it might occur, should be boycotted) flatly refused to tell the press where the hearing would be. "This is a public hearing," she said, "the public is not invited to speak."
The USS Olympia has visited the City of Olympia three times in the past, failing each time to undergo thermonuclear detonation or otherwise desecrate the pristine waters of the Sound, to the extreme disappointment of the extremely left-wing City Council of Olympia.
"They are evil, they are shaitans, they have deprived us of our right to become martyrs before Allah!," proclaimed anti-nucular activist Larry Moss al-Qaeda, one of a small band of leftist idiots who want Olympia to be a nucular-free zone. "We don't wants yer filthy atoms and nucleuses here," said another, "we don't, we don't, we don't!"
It is not known exactly when the USS Olympia is due to surface in Olympia due to Navy policies. But the Navy has promised not to park it on Main Street this time to reduce the need for city security forces.
Hi, you must be local. I am also a Tumwater native.
The USS Olympia came to visit us when I was in high school. It was great. The cold war was actually still on then, and we ~still~ had a few wacky protesters from Evergreen throwing toast "Make toast not war". (Don't ask me what it means)
When she comes, I will certainly be one who will go down and see it, and smile and thank our great sailors for coming.
I think we should all use this method of creative exerpting, to foil Gannett's tantrums.
ping
WA state ping... I would love to gather a group to go see this sub when it comes. When they came last time, there was a podium with Navy brass speaking and fanfare with the sailors all lined up in their dress whites. We can find out when that will be and at least take all the good seats from the greeners.
Another freeping opportunity is happening now for the next couple weeks

I'm not that local but this showed up yesterday on the Washington board and I just could not let it sit. So, if gannett wouldn't let me tell it here with their words, I decided I'd use mine instead.
Funny. I believe it was a toaster that started a fire that burned C-Dorm there a number of years back. They burn toast at Renn Faire down at Reed.
Sounds good. Here I thought the 60's were over!
John Carlson featured this on his show this afternoon. Calling out the Fighting 570th to attend the hearing Tuesday.
The Rachel Corrie Fan Club from Evercommie U. will probably be out in force. Nitwits!

Freepmail me and our family will try to come.
OK - I'll watch the news for actual arrival information. Here, they are arguing just over the ~idea~
BTTT I heard this discussed in full today on the John Carlson show. (YEAH JOHN!) I have gotten the details together as well as the names you have provided and sent them off to a large email list. Thanks for posting this! The left is despicable. BTTT
You're welcome. I hope there's a good turnout Tuesday, per post #10.
